Halo 3 the PREQUEL to Marathon

I believe the halo series is in fact the prequel to the marathon series. Halo 3 is set in 2553, marathon is set in 2794. Same kind of ideas, aliens, super human fighter. So maybe we will see a sequel in the form of a remake of the marathon series. Share your thoughts.
War between the Independent Asteroid Government of Icarus and its neighbor, the Republic of Thermopylae on the asteroid of Onicis 492. Dead soldiers recycled as Battleroids. • The most impossible to ignore difference is the fact that humanity in the Marathon story do not have FTL (faster than light) capabilities until Durandal shows up (between Marathon 1 and 2) and gives Earth the ability to defend itself against the Pfhor using "warp-capable missiles". If the events in Halo occur before the events in Marathon, this is a HUGE problem. Humanity would be unlikely to lose FTL capability after the Covenant war. Also in it's game universe, the Marathon was a sub-light vessel (converted moon actually), and was Earth's first attempt at colonization of extra-solar planets. In the Halo universe, there were enough colonies for there to be inner and outer colonies. Again, the dots don't/won't align.

 • OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! How many times does Bungie have to say that the two games are in different "universes!?" They exist as two entirely different games with two entirely different storylines. No, it's not the prequel...

 • There are too many differences for Halo 3 to be a prequel.

 •
Posted by: PrivateJoker
Posted by: ALX2in So why the downgrade in the MJOLNIR Armour then ? (From Mark VI to IV) Chew on that one for a while...
I've been thinking about this as well. Its highly possible that the lower the number the more advanced the armor is. I know in real life some RD research "countdown" the prototypes...this could be based on an advanced modeling prototype that leads to "1" or the "perfect model" or in this case the final mode of technological advancement for the Master Chief cyborg.
Not the case in this situation. Mark V to Mark VI was an upgrade (no need for health packs and a faster shield regen). The Mjolnir Mark IV Military Cyborgs were (allegedly) revised and upgraded Battleroids that were hidden among the Marathon's population. Battleroids were made from the bodies of dead soldiers and were revived/altered with Jjaro-based cerebral implants. The Marathon SO is a walking/running/dual-shotgun wielding corpse. A lively corpse, but once you've been declared KIA, you stay that way.

 • Maybe they're completely different games and Bungie steps it up when it comes to features and gameplay, but they're not very good with original story lines? Ever think about that?

 •
Posted by: Ver7ig0 Except Durandal didn't escape. He made peace with his mortality, I thought, in the last moment before closure.
Based on my experience in Infinity, that is what I gathered as well. Once merged with Toth, he "mellowed" a bit and was less worried about non-existence.

(From Mark VI to IV) Chew on that one for a while...
Actually, that can easily be explained. The Mark IV from Marathon was on the Marathon since 2400, so when they left Earth it would have been before Halo. But that's beside the point, because there are way too many differences in the two universes for them to be the same. -TGP-
The Universes don't necessarily need to be the same. If you remember Marathon, then you know that Durandal's ultimate goal was to escape the closure of the universe and essentially become immortal. If you know anything about current theories about the formation and future of the universe, then you know that it's quite possible that after the big crunch (the closure of the universe) another big bang happens, forming another universe. So, since Durandal escaped, he could have made his way into the next universe, which could possibly be the Halo Universe. And if Durandal is in the halo universe, that could add up to some pretty interesting scenarios.
Except Durandal didn't escape. •
Posted by: IX DeFuZioN XI
Posted by: Gadget911 So marathon is set 200 years in the future! So MC is about 300?
The marathon hero awakens at the start of the game from cryo stasis* (don't know whole to spell it)
Actually that is incorrect. At the beginning of Marathon, the space marine was en-route to the U.E.S.C. Marathon colony ship when he was attacked and forced to abandon the craft in a lifepod, lands on the craft and begins to defend the station. Marathon 2: Durandal begins with the space marine being awoken from 17 years of cryo-stasis.

 •
bungie officially said MC is not the security officer.
Bungie also said once that they didn't know what ilovebees was... they also said they weren't making Halo 3 yet at one time...officially. The MASS of Marathon stuff recently, the XBLA release of the game, the ridiculous amount of marathon throwbacks in Halo 3, the amount of Marathon stuff that just keeps popping up on bungie? Granted I havent been here in about a year, so it may not be THAT fresh, it's all stuff I'd never seen and I was at one time a Bungie whore. Halo 3 has rekindled my street walking.... It's all hints to a new Marathon game i think whereas it may not be directly related to halo, it may be in some way, or it may not at all. But I'm putting my money on Bungie's next release being a Marathon game. As far as the end of Halo 3, on a side note, I think it will kick off the movie. ...Either that, or the movie will be in the vein of Halo Wars, a prequel. [Edited on 09.29.2007 9:41 PM PDT]

 • master chief can be frozen in cryo for 200+ years and still be the same, as for cortana, she might die since smart A.I.s live for like 10 years or something, but that planet may also be onyx (unless it is also in marathon) i heard when you wake up in marathon you forget who you are, so theres a big chance that the main guy is master chief [Edited on 09.29.2007 9:29 PM PDT]

 • there are a lot of ties, and i wouldnt say the universes are too different, like go to youtube and theres marathon videos on there, one of which shows the opening pic thing, wich is a case falling out of a ship *SPOILERS AHEAD* like in the end of H3 master chief is on a ship and in a cryo tube*END SPOILERS*(, as well as many of the weapons like the MA75B Assault rifle (as opposed to MA5B or MA5C), and the The symbol on the moniters eye and stuff, watch some of the videos, theres tons of resembolence to the halo universe oh yeah, and if you look at some of the screenshots on google and stuff, there is a picture of a few very large aliens that resemble an alien bungie cut out of halo 2, and one of the aliens looks like an enjineer, that they also cut out of all halo games [Edited on 09.29.2007 9:08 PM PDT]

 • I think there diffrent universes but if you read ghost of onyx it shows advanced cryo-stasis and how the charaters could end up in a very diffrent universe without time travel or other weird stuff. Can't wait to see the end and what they decided will happen to the MC.

 • The connections between Halo and Marathon are primarily fan service. I know a few hardcore old Mac-head Bungie fans, and they love all the little things but won't run around obsessing that the two universes are the same. I'm willing to chalk it up to these games being made by the same people, some of whom wanted to try old things on new platforms and others who wanted to give their hardcore fans something sweet. Not that Marathon: Infinity didn't take place in multiple realities or anything. But with the possibility of multiple universes in the mix, one could justify connections between Marathon any ANYTHING else.
