1. Overview and History of Myth
Who better to explain what Myth is, then Bungie? Here is the gist of it:
Myth is a Real Time Tactical game, where troop placement and movement means more then numbers and unit strengths. There is no building, no unit trading or resource management (other then the wellbeing of your army, and the ammo they hold). Myth is all about the battle, the strategy and the skill that will win the day, as apposed to the gameplay of “I can build more farms then you! PWN3D!” that many RTS suffer from.
The single player campaign has a rich plot, with story that rivals marathon in many respects. It is a fantasy world, in an age similar to the Lord of The Rings, with a endless battle between good and evil. As always, Bungie have made a solo campaign that is keeps you interested, and wanting more. The detail in the levels, the humour and the story tidbits that you glean from evert have kept this game alive for so long. As always, keep your eye out for the easter eggs and references to books and movies.
The multiplayer component is where Myth really shines. Rooms, rankings, game types and orders – it’s all there. Many hours can be spent playing co-op games, improving your rank or testing your skills in the various plugins that are played online. Team vs team games are not uncommon, and can lead to the most frantic games you’ll see.
If you would like a taste of what it’s all about, the Mac demo of Myth II: Soulblighter can be found at http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=10222, the PC demo at http://downloads.gamezone.com/demos/d1872.htm or http://gr.bolt.com/download/pc/strategy/myth2_soulblighter.htm. If these links aren’t good, then a google search will find them. Note that these demos do not contain any updates or the ability to connect to the newer game servers.
When Bungie joined forces with Microsoft, they sold the rights to Myth and Oni to Take 2 Interactive, who went on to make Myth III.
