I just turned 56 last month! Started playing Marathon in late 1995 or early 96. I was only a tender 47 years old and I played Marathon every second I could spare out of my life and many I couldn't. Gosh... talk about a misspent youth!!

In Marathon (M1A1) is there a reload button? I always find myself with one bullet left and I have to fire in order to reload when I'm about to enter a battle.

No reload button in Marathon. Shoot off the last few bullets of your magazine before you enter a tough room, or if you are an ammo miser like me, switch to fists or a different weapon when you empty a magazine.
or...
If you get into a room with lots of enemies, let your feet do the talking. Just run around the group of them, as you continue to circle them, they will bunch together and shoot their own men while they are trying to shoot you. They cannot lead their shots to hit you while moving and they have no conscience so don't care if they hit their own men. If a Pfhor is damaged enough it will become "berserk" and go wild shooting at it's own men as well as you. You will save a LOT of ammo this way. Use the last few bullets of your magazine to take out the berserker (he will be super weak) after he has killed everything else. You wind up with a full magazine for the next fight.
