Bioshock is overrated. The final numbers of the reviews are "skewed". They keep the reviews around each other so they don't look like they don't know what they're talking about. They all talk about how the "replayability" is moderate...but that somehow still equals a 9 or 9.5? I don't think so. People have beat the game in less than 20 hours. One guy beat it on hard in less than 30 hours 1st run through. The game is EASY! Even on hard, it's soooo completely easy it's depressing. You can die as many times as you want, you'll always get put back at the closest Vita Chamber. Sad thing is any damage done to your enemies stays the same. I've taken Big Daddies down completely by a wrench without a single bullet or plasmid. Just like in Prey, there is no penalty for dying. This is a HUGE distraction. Things that Bioshock deserves the ratings for: Graphics and Sound. Things that Bioshock should have got slightly lower for: Storyline/gameplay Things that Bioshock should have got a lot lower for: Combat/Simplicity/Replay/Longevity In the end, I'd give it a 9.2 or 9.3, but no where near a 10. My biggest problem with Bioshock is that it isn't remotely challenging. I credit that to the fact that the first plasmid you get is IMO the best. Electro-shock is way way way too effective. If you've played the demo, you know what I'm talking about, but I'll give you specific examples. Electro-Bolt is too effective because of being paired with water. The stunning is one thing, which makes it really easy to get headshots, but when all you have to do is electrocute most enemies/bosses, the game is too simplistic. This has a very negative impact on combat. The only challenge in the game is not using Electro-Bolt. So put plainly. I knew what the storyline was going to be. Meaning it's predictable. There is little to no replay. The combat is very simplistic and not even challenging. There is no penalty for dying (Prey-like). One plasmid to rule them all, one plasmid to bring them into darkness. You cannot see your feet, so you kind feel like a "floating camera" (not a huge issue, but come on). Once you beat it once or a couple times, you won't play it past that. These are just the beginning of the flaws of the game. And those are only the ones I feel strongly about. [Edited on 08.17.2007 10:27 PM PDT]

Still the number one game on xbox live (XBL is bigger than ever). More people are playing Gears than ever played halo 2. This is the only website that ever speaks negatively about the game. Actually this website speaks negatively about any game that does not have "HALO" or "BUNGIE" in it name. So that is usually why, I don't take opinions from people here (about games).

I think Halo 3 will beat it. Sure, Bioshock is putting jaws through the floor when they drop, but the sheer size and action of Halo 3 sounds amazing, along with the new amazing AI. Graphics in Halo 3 are supposed to be near top-notch, multiplayer looks mind-numbing, and (hopefully) the story is going to be insane. I think Halo 3 gets GOTY, but I think it will tie Bioshock in overall ratings.

System Shock 2 and one were never overly popular, so changing the name to Bioshock was not a huge risk.

It's a spirtual successor...sound familiar? It's not a sequel then, as much as it is a common goal. In order for it to be a true sequel, then it would need to have a prior story that is about the rapture, or events leading to Bioshock...not just similar events. Marathon and Halo have similar events, but different stories, as they are not the same.

The developer of the game, Irrational games, made a series prior to this called System Shock, and then System Shock 2. Bioshock is claimed by Irrational as the "spiritual successor" of System Shock. For the vast majority, the gameplay and style seen in Bioshock is very similar, and I mean very similar to System Shock 2. In System Shock 2 you are an "outsider" who is stuck in a confined area (Spaceship) and are working to stay alive with the help of Shodan. I saw a picture of a big daddy with fire around him, and a little sister walking by a body. I was literally scared of it, I was hoping I would never see it again. But now that I played threw the demo I know that's its not supposed to be scary.

Halo is not a Zelda killer....wow. Zelda has so much more credit than Halo, it's ridiculous. Besides, I think the last released Zelda was the highest rated one in the series...it got all 10's by EGM, I'm not too sure about the others. Bioshock though, deserves this credit...it is a very unique game, and it is not a sequel like Halo or Zelda.

Wow, everyone likes this game, I had better purchase it because they tell me to....../sarcasm I've been browsing this item over slightly over the past weeks. Honestly didn't even know the name until just a few weeks back. I haven't gotten around to playing that demo I downloaded but if I like the way that plays then I will certainly check into either buying it (if there is a multiplayer attached) or at least renting it to have some fun playing through the single player.
