Ok.. so when the game HALO 3 was first announed, there was a documentary video came out on the MarketPlace and I believe its still there. And the dev were like "Thats Halo 3, thats how its going to look like, that is the engine". But now when you compare the screen shots.
Halo 3 doesn't look like anything like the first video.
You be the judge.
The first time when they showed Halo 3. Some said it didn't wow them, but for most of us it did. This truly was Next-Gen.
The second image revealed. Nothing close to the first one. The shine is gone, the visor is just plain yellow image with lines. You cant see your own refections through it like before. Armour didn't look like it did before, its way too edgy and sharp ends.
What we are getting now, the damage on the armour is completely lowered down in texture. Its not like, Chief got hurt in the battle, but more like a copy/paste job. The detail from the first image is completely gone. Its more like someone pasted some images on the chief. This is what we are getting
-
After seeing a screen shot closeup of the new texture, I don't think the problem is low res texture or bump mapping (whichever one does the scratches) I think the problem is you can't seee the detail until you are close up. If they made it so that you could see scratches from farther away, added some metallic damage and darkened the blacks a little bit than it would be perfect. The scratches ARE there, you just can't see them. If you aren't really close Proof
-
Why are graphics now the issue? They are great. And posting different quality pictures does not prove anything other than the attempts to try to find problems where none exist. Those picture are different when it comes to size, and it is a commonly known fact that when you resize larger images into smaller ones, you lose detail. So of course the pictures you link us too will make us think one way. If people really want to see the graphic quality of Halo 3, look at the Quicktime movie images of the Spartan permutations or the flamethrower.
Posted by: El Senor
Posted by: shadowx117 I'm pretty sure if they just made everything more defined and less fuzzy it would look like 20% better. All I did here was change the darkness of the blacks. I can't get the pictures any larger, not sure how other people do it but even in these small pics you can tell that the altered one looks more crisp. Opinions please?
I can't see the difference, but both look awesome. I love that screen shot, both MC and the marines look totally kickass
Unfortunately I can't show the pics in their native size, the difference is very obvious there, but are the pictures seriously indistinguishable to you?

Perhaps a bit darker color as well. The odd thing is, the Multiplayer variants/colors look better then MC :-/ to me at least.... I don't know though. Now I'm not sure. I definitely do not want the statue back but something about the new MC doesn't look right. [Edited on 08.16.2007 1:04 PM PDT]

Ahahahaha you're complaining about a texture that they changed. They changed that Texture for the best too, He used to look like he was a chipped up cement statue!. If you didn't notice, the game itself looks better then ANYTHING we have ever seen before. I don't even understand why this topic has that yellow thing beside it. This topic is GARBAGE.

Dude, do you need a 101 in the English language? Get it through your damned, thick skull. "This is what Halo 3 is going to look like." Not, "This is what Master Chief is going to look like." For crying out loud. What in the world is your problem?

It seems like you are just forcing your self to convince yourself that the graphics now are more reasonable. They aren't. And if you watch "Halo 3: The Beginning".. at 6:56... they said.. I've read that those are old screens, which they are. Maybe they have changed a bit since then. Who knows.. Let's wait and see. Also, yeah, they lied a bit but they did not lie about the awesomeness.I honestly thought at the time('06) that was how the game was going to look like but I forgot about that and saw the new shots of Halo 3('07) and I was amazed by the awesomeness then too, so I don't care either way :D. I'm still paying 70 buck for the limited edition and enjoying the game.. They don't PROMISE you stuff. But they did say "This is how Halo 3 is going to look." Things get CHANGED during developement. If they say the Arstists PREFERRED a certain type of texture, then that's what they PREFERRED. Bungie isn't trying to hide something, you're just upset cause you don't have your precious concrete texutre. That's what they wanted, so they're sticking with it. Things change in developement. Some things get left out, others take their place. Kinda like the Mongoose for Halo 2... except it didn't get replaced. Bungie has evened out their time really well this time around. They aren't going to show off everything in the game just before release. They want to keep you in suspense to see what the ACTUAL game looks like. Quit going back to the old stuff and focus on what's new. It'll be better than dwelling on what could have been, because who knows? Maybe it will turn out BETTER than the 06 stuff.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about the release date. Which is never. the artists can do whatever style they want. Last time I checked, Halo 3 artist weren't going around and "promising" anything to anyone. In the end, you sound like the kid who wanted a car for his birthday, and got it, but with a different shade of blue instead of the one he wanted, and is now whining and doesn't deserve the car at all.

Master Chief, of course. And, you ever stop to think why his armor doesn't have metallic scratches to it? Ever think that maybe his armor isn't just painted green on the outside?
