Master chief the main character in Marathon?

I have a nagging feeing that it might be because in Marathon if you have played it his hand armor is green for one but in Marathon you never once see your character nor is there a name given to him, thats why i think Marathon is the next chapter after Halo wich it already was because Marathon is a few hundred years in the future from Halo, wat do you guys think? and please dont trash my topic because it's not all having to do with halo 3.
They look like flashlights to me but yes, very similar. Though like I mentioned above, I would really like to find an official bungie statement about the two.

 • Oh....by the way...I'm not saying anything about them being related....just that they both have some kind of shoulder-mounted thing. The similarities between the two worlds has already been pointed out by many, many....many sources.

 • Can someone find any official statements from Bungie about this character in relevance to MC?

And Bungie has said many times that he 'is' the Master Chief. They altered the story to make Halo, I've only played Marathon a little bit so I don't know how much of the story was left intact, but I heard there was also a Cortona character.

 • There was a theory on the Mararthon's Story page, that the main charcter of Marathon, is also the main character from Pathways Into Darkness, Bungie's first FPS game. You should check that out, because it's relevant to your discussion. Personally, I don't beleive it myself, but that theory may give you some insight into the main charcter of Marathon. Oh, and Mjolnir wasn't armor in Marathon, Mjolnir were cyborgs in it.

 •
Posted by: flamedude Well I can understand why you might think the Marathon guy is a Spartan. After all he is wearing a Mjolnir armour suit.
yeah i'm pretty sure its like mark 1 or 2 MJOLNIR armour might be wrongg there but this is from the halo wiki Halo and Marathon Halo: Combat Evolved shares many features with Marathon and could be considered Marathon 4 (though Bungie claims that it is set in a different universe). Common features include the Marathon logo embedded in the Halo logo, Hunters, and SPNKr (also known as Lazyboy) rocket launchers, not to mention other similarities to other weapons. Halo plays very much like a modern, high end version of Marathon (although has far less puzzles). Bungie often recycles components, famous phrases and jokes from its games. Marathon Marathon was released for the Apple Macintosh and was one of the earliest first-person shooters to appear on the Macintosh. Unlike some other similar games of that era (for example, id Software's DOOM) Marathon and its sequels, Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity were notable for their intricate plots. Set in the year 2794 A.D., the game placed the player as a cyborg Security Officer aboard the human starship UESC (Unified Earth Space Council) Marathon, orbiting the colony on the planet Tau Ceti IV. Throughout the game, the player attempts to defend the ship and its inhabitants from a race of alien slavers called the Pfhor. As he fights against the invaders, he witnesses the three shipboard AIs' interactions, and discovers that all is not as it seems aboard the Marathon. The Cyborg The character portrayed by the player is known only as The Marine or The Cyborg. In many ways, he bears resemblances to John: he is a two-meter cyborg who wears green battle armor (though the armor is just perfectly normal unpowered armor he pulls out of a shuttlecraft locker, his superhuman prowess originating from his transformation into a MJOLNIR battleroid centuries before, in spite of which he looks quite normal among other humans) who never speaks in-game. At the start of Marathon, he appears to believe that he is merely a human, although a talented, dangerous and powerful one. However, persistent references to "nine MJOLNIR Mark IV cyborgs" throughout the game has led many fans to believe that the Cyborg is in fact the ninth member of this group. However, the cyborg himself does not come to realize this until Marathon Infinity, when he starts having surreal flashbacks, trips into his own mind, and spontaneous, bizarre dreams as a side-effect of Jjaro technology employed in his cybernetic enhancements. •
Posted by: Rooster Boost maybe its the first version of spartan armor before spartans were actually created, like it could be just really advanced armor in the past of the halo universe and this guy is just another soldier, thats my theory at least
But it's set after the halo series.

 • The numbers don't add up. The Marathon was launched in the year 2472 and arrived at Tau Ceti in 2772. The Halo game takes place in the year 2552, so Marathon would have been gone when the events in Halo take place and the Security Officer would have most likely been in stasis. And this line from the Marathon manual implies that the Security Officer was around for Marathon's launch (or at the very least alive when it took place), "With apprehension, the same apprehension you felt three hundred and twenty-two years earlier, you envision Marcus Tiberius Buendia, one of Sol's greatest leaders. 'Mankind will venture out past its earthly bounds, and move into a future grander and more real than the total of its own written history.' Buendia, the president of the Unified Earth Space Council, had spoken those words to the people of the Sol System on the eve of the launching of the Marathon." Plus Master Chief was born in 2511 (in 2517 Dr Halsey meets a six year old MC), thirty-nine years after the Marathon was launched. Technically, if Marathon and Halo shared the same universe, the Security Officer could be Master Chief's grandfather, but it's been pointed out to me before that Bungie has stated that the stories of the two games are completely seperate.
