Next level loading screen freeze (Halo 2 PC Vista)
Well after completing level one of Halo 2 PC vista I was happily awaiting the next level (via the HALO 2 loading screen) when to my disappointment right after the loading was done instead of going to the next level the HALO 2 text came back up almost immediately only faded grey and glitching/flashing while the audio for level 2 apparently kept going (i was able to control and go to menu and hear the game but the screen was frozen in game on that loading screen). So i did what anyone would do, ctrl-alt-del and end task. Opened the game back up to continue playing the level I was suppose to be starting but upon "resuming" my game I was told that Windows LIVE's save point was not the same and I would have to either start the level over or continue playing with my game and receive no achievements (for some reason). Naturally I was eager to play the new level I was on and not waste time, but I wanted those achievements for some reason, so I hit restart level but was even more angry when I found myself at the start of LEVEL 1!!!!!!! not level 2 like I was suppose to be on. So I played level 1 again, got to the end and during the level 2 loading the same exact thing happened, only this time I chose to continue game with no achievements thinking I would get to play level 2 now, but surprise surprise.......I was back at level 1 beginning.
ANY ideas? What is this glitch?
I have 8800GTX and newest driver. so i doubt its my amazing $900 video card, i have lots of ram and other goodies (incl 3GHZ cpu)
are there any tweaks you guys can think of to fix this so i can play campaign?

hmm good point, not the background tasks guy but the one before that, it didnt happen to me after i beat the first level as arbiter, maybe its just certain cut scenes or level changes, besides i can always select level instead of resuming last saved, no worries im into multiplayer more anyway :P but today all servers were down, whats with that? i had to go like 3 hours without halo 2 MP before work lol

Sounds to me like there's too many background tasks running.

Ok, if it is happening after EVERY level they you have a bigger problem. You might want to try and reinstall the game. I only had it happen to me twice. Both times it was in exactly the same point. Just before the Gravemind level started. It happend on Normal and Legendary, but not on Heroic.

cool thanks i will try that tonight k yea it works, thanks, but after i beat the level it still froze the video (not audio or controls) like before, and so i had to end task and just load level again like you said. but is there any suggestions on how to stop this freezing? is it my video settings somehow or compatiblility with the drivers? (mine are nvidia's newest) should i force my resolution maybe? (1650x1080 or something), if so how do i force resolution if that would worK? i hate having to end task after every game, and it ONLY freezes during level change cut scenes and stuff [Edited on 07.23.2007 9:42 PM PDT]

Pretty common occurance it seems. To get past it do this: 1. Start Halo and select Campaign mode 2. click on Select Level instead of Resume 3. click on next level that it shows and continue playing Despite what the game says you will continue to get your achievements (I know because the same thing happened to me)

Hold on, you spent $900 on a 8800 GTX, when you can find them for $500? And make sure you are up to date with all files, oh, and make sure that all other programs aren't running, and you run as administrator.
