This post proves the importance of using the "Close Skill Range" preference when in ranked matchmaking. I always use it, and many people should now after reading the first post. It's somewhat dissapointing that ranking has nothing to do with how well you play in a match. However, I guess it would be a very complicated process to calculate every game.
