Virginia Weapon Laws

So I may be acquiring this at some point in the near future, but I need to know something first. Would this be illegal to carry in the state of Virginia? I'll be checking other sources before I receive it, but I thought I may as well ask here. PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A GUN THREAD. Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

  • The question shouldn't be if it is legal or not. The question should be whether or not a more powerful female repellant even exists. If you want to feel safe walking around town with that virgin stick, you might as well walk around in a storm trooper suit holding a bat'leth.

      • inb4 the idiots of this forum flock to this thread claiming guns are the problem. Little do they know that when criminals know of people who are armed, they avoid those people and criminals get guns way easier just from the street. LAWS ONLY APPLY TO LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, NOT CRIMINALS.

        • A cane sword? I believe knives in virginia are only legal to carry if they are under the length equivelent to the width of your palm, or 5" or less. second it falls under a concealed weapon, and it most certainly is over the length rule. Id guess no it isnt legal to carry. Why are you getting one, do you actually need a cane to walk? Yes i am a Virginia resident.

Like Bad Magik said, if this turns into a gun thread. Gun laws will only apply to law abiding citizens. Basically making things worse. Dumb bleeding heart liberals. You think that all guns will just disappear from america once gun laws pass. Nope, only the law abiding citizens will obey the government and have their weapons melted down. Criminals will keep them and say woohoo, now I can assault people knowing they can't fight back. Hopefully they'll ban them from houses too so we can rob those as well! Man I love liberals they are always looking out for the best interests of the country!

Here is the virginia law on concealed weapons
§ 18.2-308. Personal protection; carrying concealed weapons; when lawful to carry; penalty. A. If any person carries about his person, hidden from common observation, (i) any pistol, revolver, or other weapon designed or intended to propel a missile of any kind by action of an explosion of any combustible material; (ii) any dirk, bowie knife, switchblade knife, ballistic knife, machete, razor, slingshot, spring stick, metal knucks, or blackjack; (iii) any flailing instrument consisting of two or more rigid parts connected in such a manner as to allow them to swing freely, which may be known as a nun chahka, nun chuck, nunchaku, shuriken, or fighting chain; (iv) any disc, of whatever configuration, having at least two points or pointed blades which is designed to be thrown or propelled and which may be known as a throwing star or oriental dart; or (v) any weapon of like kind as those enumerated in this subsection, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. A second violation of this section or a conviction under this section subsequent to any conviction under any substantially similar ordinance of any county, city, or town shall be punishable as a Class 6 felony, and a third or subsequent such violation shall be punishable as a Class 5 felony. For the purpose of this section, a weapon shall be deemed to be hidden from common observation when it is observable but is of such deceptive appearance as to disguise the weapon's true nature. It shall be an affirmative defense to a violation of clause (i) regarding a handgun, that a person had been issued, at the time of the offense, a valid concealed handgun permit.
Long story short. They don't want you to carry some concealed funky weapon unless its a handgun and you have a valid CHL. I wouldn't carry that if I were you. for 2 reasons 1) Knives/swords/bladed weapons are horrible self defense weapons and your chances of being seriously injured are significantly higher than without. 2) The legality. Given the text above if you were found to have such a device you would most likely be arrested. Other than this, your best bet is to call the local police station and ask them.
