Doesn't war tend to slow certain fields of science? There were probably plenty of wars that will take place between now and then. We may spend most of our research on weapons instead of the other technologies the UNSC had.

Are you kidding me? War advances it. Politics on the other hand... well, just look at the former Islamic Empires (Mughals, Ottomans, etc.).

War advances some parts of it. It does not, however, advance space travel or colonization since neither of these helps win a war. I believe research in non-war related fields slow in times of war. We are a little to busy trying to kill people or keep ourselves from being killed. Also, who now what economic crisises happen between now and then.

Edited by Vicex: 1/22/2013 5:05:01 AMMuch of the technology we have comes from, or was vastly improved upon from research for war. GPS, Radar, Pesticides, Computers, Airplanes, etc.... have no clue what you are talking about when you say it does not advance space travel. Just look at the Cold War, and how we continue to make further advancements on satellites for current conflicts. There are few things technologically that are ignored or postponed when war is waged. Edit: Colonisation? The reason why that isn't being explored at a rate like other technologies is because it is far from being practical.

You are specifically talking about the space race, which was a race to see who could get into space first. We haven't exactly seen advances in that field due to the war we are in now. I am not saying that advancement stops completely and, yes, many of today's technologies came from war tech. But we turned such technology to other uses after war was over, not during. I am saying some fields slow during war, not all.

We're not really seeing advancements because it's not seen as important compared to the other things the government is throwing money at. Nothing to do with war, just the government figured there was better places the money could go.
