I'm talking primarily Halo MLG here. So many people have been saying how "MLG Sucks" or "Halo is better off without it". I see constant MLG Hate here as well. I just want to know...why?
MLG spawned an incredible community full of all sorts of personalities and backgrounds and brought them all together through the love of Halo. I travel across the country to hang out and play Halo with people I met online, my cousin holds regular Social LANs where we get 8 friends, playing Halo, drinking alcohol and having an incredible weekend of gaming and socializing.
Just because you got your jimmies rustled by some idiot on Xbox Live doesn't give you the right to call them an "acid spewing community". I've played a lot of people in social playlists like Action Sack, BTB, Living Dead who go absolutely apeshit at me for not getting in their warthog, or hiding in the wrong place. There is absolutely no correlation between MLG and ass-holes on Xbox Live.
people saying MLG was nothing but bad for Halo is just asinine. MLG brought sponsors like Dr. Pepper, Old Spice and Dorito's into the world of Halo and boosted its money making potential astronomically. Virgin Gaming is one company, running one tournament at a time with no real publicity or sponsors and only attracting people who are already playing the game.

Because, at some point, a tryhard will have told them how bad they are at Halo. This tryhard will have had an MLG related gamertag, gamerpic or something in his bio. So, rather than accept the core problem of them being terrible at Halo, they decide that it's really just the tryhard being a dick. This happens time and again, as they are really bad at Halo, and every time it's someone who has "MLG" somewhere in their profile that's telling them how bad they are. This leads to a deep resentment with MLG and anyone who''s good at Halo as it's easier to hate on others than it is to admit how bad you are at your favourite video game.

2 RepliesBecause they're not good, they team kill like crazy and when they lose fights they run away, their personalities are always annoying tryhards and it's a game ffs.
-
well i give props to the official MLG gamers but i hate the ones who tryhard, brag about how their K/D is better than everyone else's, and all the kids on call of duty and halo who act like the're MLG

Edited by G7kherc: 1/22/2013 9:07:26 AMAgreed. MLG IS AWESOME! But the community are -blam!-
-
They take fun games and cut half the content out in the name of "competitiveness."
-
Mostly because people are irrational, and they also judge community's by their most rotten outliers rather than their strongest core.
-
They take themselves too seriously.

I'm just not into the whole "2k elo south korea callouts battle rifle balance rank 50 fight me irl pro circuit dropshot 360 noscope" thing.
-
Really it's just the wannabe crowd. Most 'real' MLG are really nice people but it was when it blew up and the immature masses came along it started to bug me.
-
MLG is seriously one of the biggest things leading to the downfall of games.

MLG brought those people together? So...Halo didn't bring those people together? I have nothing against the concept of the group. They like their rules, awesome. What I dislike are the people who claim that their rules are better, like some kind of empirical formula was used to remove factually "bad" components of the game. I have nothing against MLG. It just so happens that the outspoken ones in this community, back in my time, would constantly claim that their rules should be the standard and that every variation that differed was "broken." I've played with MLG players who were really cool guys, and I've had some good experiences playing on their game types and maps. I've also had some great experiences playing on standard "off the disc" game types and maps with these people. Conversely, I had some awful games with people who were hyper-competitive, who took a marginal win to mean that I deserved to be treated like garbage (though this happens with people who may subscribe to any rule and map set). I've had people complain that my kill was "cheap" because I used non-standard MLG weapons. I'm sorry, I used what I needed to use at that given time to kill you. The point I am trying to make is that I don't dislike MLG. I am not passionate about it, but I don't dislike it. What I do dislike is the arrogant attitude that the outspoken MLG fans had here, just like they didn't like the arrogant attitude of the people who sought them out to criticize.

4 Repliesbecause alot of people here just hate on everything. They hate them because they are more successful. They hate them becuase they are better than them at the game They hate them because people on here hate competition. Its pretty pathetic. MLG made halo great. It balanced the game and allowed the better team to come out victorious. It also created a "sport" like atmosphere at its competitive tournaments.

I have no hate for Major League Gaming, I just hate when kids try to be 'MLG' and in the process act like douche bags. I personally have some good Halo skill from playing with a few hardcore MLG tryhards who were all really nice guys, taught me just about every tactical thing I know about the game.

3 RepliesAnd so what if MLG dropped Halo 4? Doesn't mean the game can't continue on and be good. Personally, the MLGs can kiss me where the sun does not shine. Everyone is too dam obsessed with what the MLGs do. It's like they don't even have their own soul, just blindly follow the MLGs!
-
Personally I don't see how this will hurt Halo in any way outside of community BS. The claim that MLG brought general consumer sponsers to Halo is BS, those things are conducted point to point, MLG wouldn't broker sponsership deals for MS.
-
MLG isn't bad, it's the wannabe MLG "community" that pisses people off because of their constant complaining.
-
It is most likely that they suck at MLG.

Because the Flood is full of insecure jealous losers.

3 RepliesIt's stupid wasting money to set a MLG match, buying food, drinks, and everything else. When you could just go home on your Xbox and play games...
-
Halo isn't competitive anymore. Therefore Halo fans don't care for competitive gameplay. Halo and MLG just don't go together anymore.
-
2 RepliesYou're judged by your community, and sadly the vocal MLG community on Bungie has left much to be desired. This rang true specifically during the Halo 2/3 days when people were consistently being trashed for not preferring MLG gametypes. The sad thing it, i'd assume the actual MLG community doesn't share many of the negative opinions voiced on b.net over the years.

They're gay

MLG was good, and it's real community was good. Nowadays though, MLG types in Halo just wanted BR starts, and v1 of Halo 4 was just that. The community also sucks today, they're way too negative. I'm not big on Halo 4 also but I don't cry about it 24/7. Some of them do.
