If we can discover how to make wormholes or something similar, then we would be much more advanced than the UNSC.

What if we find alien technology? That would be awesome!

I hate the idea of finding alien tech and copying it, because then we wouldn't have come up with that technology ourselves and we'd just be imitators. If we grow advanced I want it to be by ourselves with our own struggles.

I agree, it does satisfy your own sense of deserving that tech, and it would be more honorable, but in reality, if the world does find alien tech they won't let their own sense of honor get in the way of a huge discovery. It would mean better for future generations as well as the current one. Humans are basically imitators of each other. When the automobile was born, people imitated it, and improved upon it.
