is master chief John 117 the last spartan?
ok i know he's not but i didn't know a better title for the thread but yeah, so if you read the halo novels you know John is NOT the last spartan 2 alive. there's kelly, linda, will, fred(?), and there was kurt but you know. . .
so my question is this:
why when halo 3 and bascially ALL the halo games keep saying that John 117 is the last of his kind/ last remaining spartan?
bungie has stated that the novels are canon so what's the deal? this is driving me nuts!

Halo 1: James is dead, Linda is clinically dead in cryotube, everyone else is thought to be glassed on Reach. Master Chief is the only one alive. Halo 2: Fred, Linda, Will are active on Earth. Maybe they wanted to [i]keep following Halo 1's tradition.[/i] Additionally, it would've been overly confusing for those who haven't read FS. Halo 3: All remaining Spartans are in the shield world. The [i]Dusk[/i] saw Onyx's surface explode and the planet breaking into a billiard sentinels, so of course they think no one survived.
