Why don't Jackals speak english?
All the covenant races in the game speak english except for the jackals, i know they have that wierd screechy bird voice, but they could still speak english with that and i think it would sound pretty cool.

they do except they talk so fast we cant understand them. record them talking and then play it back very slowly.

Actually now that i think about it at Harvest a covie ship sends a message in english saying " Your destruction is the will of the gods". So yes english vocabulary is known by atleast some of the covenant.

Elites can't speak english for the simple fact that their mouth structure can't allow them to. Our language is made with sounds our mouths can make. Their mouths are drastically different than ours.

I understand that we as players have to understand them at some points in the game. Wether it be to know that an elite is coming at us or the comic relief in the for of a grunt. However I do not realy like the idea of being able to understand them. Granted they did a good job in explaining that Chief's armor is the reason he can understand them. I just see it to much like watching a WWII movie and all of the Germans speak Engligh.

Just so everyone knows no covenant races speaks human but Masterchiefs Mark IV has a built in translator. The reason we can't understand the jackals is obviously because Masterchiefs translators can't translate Jackal. Masterchiefs translator also can't translate prophet as shown in the cutscene when cortana has to translate what regret is saying when he is speaking in his native tongue. However seemingly part of his sermon was in the base covenant language or another language that can be translated by MC. [Edited on 06.29.2007 4:08 PM PDT]

Jackals actually sound better with there Screechy-like alien tongues. Them speaking english in Halo 3 would kinda ruin a little bit of them and their character. They speak english backwards though. [Edited on 06.29.2007 4:12 PM PDT]

If you remember the part with all the Jackels locked in the jail cell, you would realize that Jackels are simply animals that are smart enough to opperate a weapon. Elites, Brutes, and Grunts are more human like, so they can talk. A talking Jackel would be like seeing a talking dog.

They are basically animals with guns, so they cannot speak. Drones don't talk either because they are bugs. Seriously though, can you imagine a talking Jackel? Thats like seeing a talking dog!

Well they do not have lips first off. So they can not speak well enough for us to hear. Also, there cocky bastards with little tongs, and think there to good to pickup and say we suck in our lang. -Aktins Diet
