Arbiter ALREADY Flood-infected...Evidence inside

When Gravemind had a hold on both the Chief and the Arbiter, I believe that Gravemind infected the Arbiter, perhaps with some sort of dormant infection that would manifest later. http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/cutscenes/halo2.html First, watch the cutscene "Inside Job" for background. Then, watch the cutscene "Your Ass, My Size 24 Hoof." Note that the Elite Special Ops Commander doesn't react at all to hearing some sort of all encompassing deep voice(Gravemind); That's because he DOESN'T hear it. Gravemind is clearly speaking directly to the Arbiter, mentally. Therefore, chances are the Arbiter is already slightly Flood-infected. Thoughts and comments?

  •
Posted by: Silkice Like everyone is saying, the Arbiter is not infected. To say so would be to say Master Cheif is infected also. John also "hears" Gravemind during the High Charity mission right after Truth finishes giving his speech.
ahh, but you forget about cortana, she was in GM's grasp for a while, perhaps GM used her coms like he used 343GS/Regret's teleporting abilities? •
Posted by: Tural Doing so would result in the loss of Arbiter in assisting his plan by reducing him to a relatively brainless Flood. .
"Their Parasitic nature belies the Flood's intelligence. They are already hard at work repairing your vessel" The flood aren't stupid. And they can take over the knowledge of anyone they infect.

  •
You are assuming there are only two levels of Flood-infection...none and full-blown. You're telling me that you have enough knowledge of how Flood infects that there is no way there could be a "dormant" infection in the Arbiter, placed there by Gravemind for purposes of control?
And you have enough knowledge of the Flood to know that there is such thing as a dormant spore? You are assuming here as well, my friend... >_<

  •
Posted by: Dr Avinger
Posted by: Tural A Gravemind doesn't infect bodies, it consumes them. Its purpose for releasing John and the Arbiter was to have them indirectly save him. There would be no reason for him to infect the Arbiter. Edit: I can buy recollection as a large possibility. However, Bungie has a way of giving subtle hints that seem obvious later on. Although it is probably likely that the Arbiter is not infected, I think it would be unwise to assume with 100% certainty that the Arbiter is Floodless.
Like everyone is saying, the Arbiter is not infected. The only control Jenkins had over himself was to scream, lift his hand to motion a sign meaning water, and to have a pleading look of suicide that was recognized by one female officer as a plee to not let them take him alive, or else the infection in him would kill all humanity. If a soldier came near him while chained-up, he would try to rush him and only result in snapping his own bones from the restraints holding. So, yes. Even when infected by a weak flood, you have no control of yourself.

  •
Posted by: rubberduck101 Yhea, he could just be remembering what Gravemind has said..
Ya that would make more sense. He is just remembering that "there is still time to stop the key from turning", or there is still time to stop the index from activating the halos. I can hear cortanas voice in graveminds when he speaks. Especially when he sais "Those who built this place knew what the wrout". Turn up the trebble.

  • Yeah, I'm not sure it means he is infected. It could just be him replaying what gravemind said in his head. Although it could suggest it. [Edited on 06.26.2007 7:51 AM PDT]

  • um... i kno the gravemind LOOKED like he had a mouth... but... no not really... according to the books, the flood work on telepathy (hive consciousness) therefore GM should be (and most likely WAS) able to communicate with Arby telepathically ALTHOUGH, the key turning was obviously the index in the core therefore firing halo... the fact that he was still alive would indicate that the key hasnt turned yet... so... gravemind maybe didnt need to tell Arby to get a move on... yeah, all very confusing, but i dont think its sufficient evidence to say hes infected, sorry

  • When Gravemind says "There is still time to stop the key from turning" the Arbiter is just remembering what he said like a flashback

That is just the Arbitor thinking about what the Gravemind said. Gravemind isn't saying a word.

The Gravemind had said that before he teleported them, so perhaps he was just thinking back to that.
