Ok guys, recently I went to a tournament and saw all of these exploits for Halo 2.
most notable was BxR.
At the end of the tournament I ranked 4th place (because I haven't owned an xbox in about 2 years) out of about 50 people. The deal was though, half the time I came up to someone to melee attack them, they would use the BxR exploit to kill me in about a quarter-second.
Other tournaments I went to a couple years ago had the 1.1 patch freshly installed on the xboxes. And people didn't know about BxR then, I guess. I would win those tournaments, first place!
Does bungie have any plans to correct these exploits? will they have the time? someone fill me in?
and a few random questions: I couldn't help but notice some of the Xboxes at a more recent tournament said "1.5" in the lower right hand corner at the boot-up screen. So... what's the difference between Version 1.1 and version 1.5? Also: Has bungie fixed the "super-jump" glitch yet?

I'm just gonna revive a 7 year old thread and I was looking for some info for a H2V buddy and stumbled upon this. If Bungie EVER considered button glitches cheating, they coulda patched it and wouldn't include it in the upcoming H2Anniversary. That is all.

True, but then again....it does not make any sense when you see a "pro" do a double melee and kill a guy easily and call that skill; yet turn around and when you see someone using BxR or other button combos and call that cheating. Sure its a glitch, just like every other glitch out there in almost every other game. Some view it cheap, others view it useful.....but the former are usually the ones complaining about it. In regards to other stuff like modding/standbying...etc...yes that is cheating and I do believe that those kinds of people have no place here, but complaining about a button combo that everyone has the ability (do not confuse this with knowledge) to do is kinda dumb in my opinion.
Posted by: RhetoricHPC4L I still never got why button glitches are considered "cheating" if everyone has the ability (that does NOT mean knowledge) to use them. I think I may have said this elsewhere, but complaining about BxR or the double shot in Halo 2 is like complaining about the double melee, quick invis, and backpack reloading that was there in Halo: Combat Evolved....I'm an avid Halo PC gamer as well as playing Halo 2 XBL, and I know the advantages of using such glitches; yet at the same time I hate cheaters that use cheap tactics like aimbotting, but that's an entire different story...
Are you for real? Excluding the double-melee, how can you possibly compare glitches that allow you to kill an opponent much more quickly than intended with glitches that help you but doesn't do any physical damage whatsoever to your opponents?
Posted by: I SacramenT I meh. I still poop on kids in H3B without glitches (I am an avid MLG player BTW)
Agreed. You people seem to all think that MLG players would get completely owned without button glitches like we are completely dependent on them. This could not be further from the truth. We use button glitches as a last resort to gain the upper hand in either a close up battle to to gain a shot on someone who already is one shot up on us. Even without double shot or the other glitches, most of us are still extremely good and can 4 shot at will. Despite the apparent misconception, MLG is more about communication, teamwork , teamshooting and strategy than a "button glitchers only club". MLG is the only gametype ive ever found that forces you to constantly adapt to different senarios. No two games are ever the same and you have to be able to react alot faster because everyone pretty much has the same weapons. If you make a mistake, youll know about it in MLG. I am an avid supporter of the MLG gametype and button glitches. I dont use them in matchmaking, nor do I superbounce. This game would be extremely boring if not for button glitches as far as im concerned. I used to hate them but then I realized that these glitches add a whole new dimension to the game and make it far more competetive than it ever could have been without them. Button glitches make the great players even better and it will force the "scrubs" to either adapt or get out of the way. Any "MLG haters" out there who honestly think that the MLG players out here couldnt do well in our own gametype without the glitches is welcome to play us without using any glitches at all. I think youll be very supprised at the results. [Edited on 05.29.2007 6:47 AM PDT]

If you can't beat it, use it.

BLAH i say keep them i -blam!- with them or without them and think about it if they took them out...it would make the pros look bad lol

Bungie cant fix the bxr or bxb with just a update, and if they could they would. ( LOL You Cant BXR )

Hell, I could probably do it.

Uh, yeah. bullcrap. fttzz or whatever the hell your name is supposed to be. Might as well be stealthsniper3345 What separates those who glitch from those who don't goes far beyond the glitching itself. [Edited on 05.28.2007 7:59 PM PDT]

ok, just so I clarify something: I'm not complaining. alright, maybe I am "complaining" as you call it, but it's more like pondering for me. "Would I have won that tourny if it were not for BxR or doubleshot?" that's sort of what's going through my head. that and the fact that the tourney I went to has to be played by MLG rumble pit rules as opposed to Bungie's default rumble pit rules. And I hate MLG. and besides, the mod just said that using these button exploits in matchmaking is, in fact, cheating. I'm showing this thread to the guy who held the tournament. You see, there's another tournament coming up for it this saturday, and I'll be damned if I let some 'sploiters beat me again. and to penguinizer: Why exploit? I never exploited. never once. in all the matchmade games I Played over 2 years ago, I never cheated (possibly because I didn't have a modem that could use standby and I don't like the idea of modding). And besides, what you just said is just like saying "Why don't you use the dummy glitch too? it's not like you can't do it." The dummy exploit was deemed as cheating by Bungie, and when you play their game, you agree to play by their terms in the ToS, CoC, and EULA- in which case, they can cut off their services to you at any given moment for any time and for any reason. and on a sidenote, I couldn't help but notice that the exploits are also in Halo 2 Vista. What a shame.

Learn to BxR if you're going to a tourny. If you don't, then don't complain about it. if they're BxRing you, BXR them back.

^ DAMN! Quite a beautiful post Evilcam. Yeah, everything in there was right, BXR and dub shots were around before the update. It's just that the update made melees stronger which allowed it too become and instant kill. Also, people really need to stop complaining around BXR and dub shots. Dub shots are rarely used in game, and BXRs don't completely determine the outcome of a match like everyone says. The better player will always win, with or without glitches.

Those button glitches are a result of a glitch that happened when Bungie made an update to increase the damage of melee attacks. My chronology may be off here, but I believe the 1.1 update was actually what caused this glitch. Basically, when Bungie upped the power of melee attacks, people soon realised that they could totally deplete their opponents shields with one melee attack, and then use an animation glitch to get a near instant head shot with the BR. Double shooting was around before this update, but no one seemed to know about it (at least not enough people knew about it to make it a wide spread exploit). Those glitches can't be patched, because Bungie has said that the potential problems a patch would create far out weigh the benefits. Only Bungie seems to know what might happen, but they think its a bad thing, and I for one trust their judgment. On that note, the 1.1 update (which is again based on my oft flawed powers or recollection) increased the power of the grenades, and melee attacks. It also weakened the magnum (which did put the kibosh on all the whoring that was going on). In particular, it strengthened the Plasma grenades, which was an absolute necessity because unless you stuck someone with one, they were totally useless. That update also got rid of the sword flying glitch, which was a bit of a problem in the higher echelon of matchmaking. The 1.5 update was a bit more recent. If my nearly useless memory is at all accurate, it changed the way the banhammer works, and it erased all the host and connection data we had all accumulated during our few years of Halo2 MM tenure. And, just so you know, all of those glitches you mentioned are now considered cheating when used in MM. Customs and LAN matches can use whatever rules they want to use, so if a tourney thinks their use is okay, then its okay. Their system, their rules. Now, if this thread continues to be a discussion about button glitches, this will be locked. If you want to continue discussing the updates, then please feel free. I'd imagine I either got something totally wrong, or I left something out of my description. So, please clarify if I made a mistake (and yes, you can make fun of me, so long as it does not drag this off topic). [Edited on 05.27.2007 8:41 PM PDT]

in halo 3 these BxR is gone, same with double shots (remember button combos are concidered cheating). but in halo 2, no there will not be fixes even for super bounces. These fixes would require new H2 discs to be made. since halo 3 is near, whats the point of re-making halo 2? [Edited on 05.27.2007 4:24 PM PDT]
