Bungie Weekly Update
Most of the [i]cool [/i]info was revealed on Tuesday in the Multiplayer Vidoc, but here's some stuff on matchmaking and more.

Unranking both Big Team and Rumble Pit gametypes is a very foolish decision. The player base may be shrinking, but why not remove Team Sniper, Skirmish, or Hardcore instead? There are already plenty of ranked 4v4 gametypes, and I see no reason to remove the 1 that offers large party support. Every game of BTB Skirmish fills up in less than a minute. Absolutely ridiculous. Rumble Pit I'm not as upset about, but once again, it is the only ranked "by yourself" playlist. Team Snipers should either be unranked or destroyed and mixed in with Team Slayer, but definetly not the one gametype that offers a support not offered by any others. I don't see any reason for this.

I noticed in the vidoc that the animation seemed to be taken directly from Halo 2. Is the animation going to be improved/updated for the beta?

I agree completely, I am in a clan with over 90 member and we all go together and play BTB Skirmish but now that it will be gone it will be hard to play together. They should keep BTB Skirmish and allow those people in big clans to play together or else they are useless. Fix this up BUNGIE, bring back btb skirmish for 8 players. Wow this sucks...why the -blam!- is Rumble Pit going unranked??? And if they're going to stop most cheating, why not put Head to Head back in? Now there is no real non-team gametype...this really blows.

getting rid of BTB? whats the point of even having a clan anymore then? 9 different team modes, one crappy big team mode, which is not even big, 12 players... i don't see much of a reason to buy the new maps if the only choice i have now is 4 on 4 skirmish. man, i was just getting ready to move back to halo 2 [Edited on 04.14.2007 1:22 PM PDT]

I haven't received an email about the Beta yet... but at least we know when we will be playing it. I am wondering how they consider it a beta when it's so limited. It's a demo, that they will be stress testing on. Still fun none the less!!

Well that is just awesome the few game types I actually enjoy still playing BTB Slayer and Skirmish will be gone replaced by a game type that is called Big Team Battle but you can not even play an 8 v 8 game. So I guess all of the parties of 8 I play with every night in BTB slayer will no longer exist unless we want to kill each which is not very much fun. The online population hasn't shrunk to the point where it makes sense to so limit the choices of users to play against each other playing game types they like. Even someone has to wait 2 extra minutes for game type they like they will prefer that anytime over game types they hate. I have always thought that Halo 2 matchmaking system has never been as good as almost 90% of the games out there as you never have a real choice of what maps and game types you can play you are basically stuck playing whatever they decide people will like. For ranked games I have thought this to be a good thing, but for unranked matchmaking games it has been terrible. But at least up to this point the pointless game types and maps you dislike such as all rockets or duals extra have always been offset by knowing that soon or later a game type you like will appear. But that chance has now almost vanished. I hope Halo 3 matchmaking will at least have so way to search for and join someone's custom game that is not on your friends list like almost other game that been on Xbox Live since it came out. Such as Unreal Championship, Counterstrike, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Ghost Recon, or Battlefield 2.

That's what I found out with my games anyway. It's gonna be lag-ish for everyone for a couple weeks because of people just getting on and downloading the update. If in 3 or 4 weeks I'm still seeing it, then I'll start to wonder, but for now, I'm not that concerned
