Ok, so I was randomly searching for curse words (dont ask why) and I looked up some in korean. The first one is "Jiralhanae" (transliterated exactly as it is spelled in Halo) and the website says "Literally means to become a retarded lunatic" Inside joke? Just maybe. I just found this to be quite entertaining.

maybe it translates into the way the brutes act in combat. remember. "the faster you kill those brutes chief the better... its beserking." and they do act retarded when they do beserk
-
you know what else, the word "divine wind" (as in the prophet's line "halo; its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salviation) well, "divine wind" is the literal translation of the japanese word 'kamikaze'. i guess thats an inside joke too.

I knew this for a long time.
Posted by: bazzle91 Okay I'm part Korean, that term is used for like as if I told you to give me 1 mil in cash by tomorrow. Then you'd reply with Jiralhanae. It's like, "You must be out of your -blam!-ing mind." Something along those lines, not really (kinda) like what was described... Being a Korean and British mix comes in handy.
That still somewhat describes the Brute's behavior while berserking.
Posted by: KingCalamari
Posted by: zZsLAUGHTER
Posted by: NLANE1284 This has been mentioned before. I think it was in one of the video documentaries about the development of H2. They picked that on purpose because 1) the word sounds like a Covenant type name and 2) it describes when the Brutes go berserk.
Or it could be an inside joke.
True dat.
Possibly. If you google the Covenant's races. You can find the following: Unggoy (Grunt) is "monkey" in Tagalog (Phillipines) Lekgolo (Hunters) is "one hundred" in Tswana Jiralhanae (Brutes) is "retarded lunatic" in Korean (I'm not so sure on this one but one site had that; probably slang). Yanmee (Drone) is Japanese for "dragonfly".(Possibly a slang word, because other Japanese dictionaries have "tonbo" meaning dragonfly...so this one could be wrong.) Kig-Yar (Jackal) means "chicken" in Breton
Posted by: KingCalamari
Posted by: Dragon X wasnt in the Halo 2 making of dvd, i would have remembered it.
Same here, I just watched them a few days ago
As far as where I first heard of it...I could of sworn it was in one of the documentaries. Possibly a short vid released online? Then again, it easily could have been mentioned in an interview that I read. I honestly can't think right now and I'm not going to do research to find out where it was exactly stated. Congrats on finding it yourself though.
