New Toggle Crouch option and Crouch Jumping..

Frankie mentioned that there will now be the option to toggle crouching (i.e. you press crouch and stay crouched until you press crouch again). I really like the idea of toggle crouch since I don't have to hold down crouch while I am crouch walking (makes it easier to crouch walk in games with radar). The bad thing is that it will be harder to crouch jump or rabbit hop (i.e. rapidly pressing crouch while in the air to make it harder to hit your head) or crouch fall (assuming there is fall damage or fall shock), so I would like the following option: [*] On the ground, when you press and release crouch, you will remain in crouch until you press and release crouch again. [*] In the air, you are only crouched when you hold down the crouch button (like it is now) which would allow you to quick crouch in the air. I really hope this is the way the new toggle crouch feature works cause otherwise I don't think very many players will use it (assuming that crouch jumping and rabbit hopping are as important as they are in Halo2 and Halo1). • The only real argument I see you making is that of crouch-jumping. I would assume you can still perform a crouch while in the air (just push the button), you just don't have to hold the button. The only real purpose of crouch jumping was to gain extra height to clear obstacles, and I do not see any reason why that wouldn't still be possible. If you're complaining that you can't rapidly crouch anymore, no pitty from me there. It's not meant to be a last-minute bullet dodger, that's what taking cover is meant for. Crouching is designed so you can stealthly move along a map without showing up on radar, nothing more/less. As was even brought up in the original post, the maps might not even be designed in a way to suggest crouch-jumping to clear obstacles. [Edited on 2/22/2007]

 •
Posted by: OdinVII it will provoke camping and constant crouching.
Constant crouching? Damn. Since when has crouching been considered a negative thing? if they're crouching, then go out and find them. Not too hard of a feat. Plus, crouching and camping are legitimate strategies.

 •
Posted by: gReAsEm0nKeY510 maybe if you hold the crouch for longer than a few seconds it will stay on...?
I'm for this one.

 • Why does no one give any thought to my above post. Wouldn't it make sense to be able to turn the toggle crouch feature on and off in your control scheme? They're making the 360 controller almost entirely customizable, so I see no reason that they wouldn't also give you the option to toggle your crouching between 'one-click crouch' and 'hold to crouch'.

 •
Posted by: SurrealPanic You will be able to have the "old way" of crouching as an option (just like it is now in Halo2). This thread is only relevant to the new option of having crouch toggle as Frankie mentioned.
well, i could not find any other threads to -blam!- in at the time. But sinse its optional, i could care less.

 • this is a good idea. i have heard people complain that the crouch feature would make people camp more because crouching hides you in the radar. guess what, you are revealed on the radar in a big dot when you fire a gun, even if you are crouching with just a M6C. it would instantly blow their cover and force them to move before company arrives. as for crouch jumping, you should be able to do a dive-and-roll to also get further distance in one jump, but it should slow you dowm when you complete it for a seconed because rolling causes fatigue.

 •
Posted by: CornDawg01 am i the only one who prefers the old way of courching? i thought it was fine, and i really dont like games that toggle the thing. Mainly because i will accidentily hit courch mid battle, and be fighting while courched for a while, struggling to fight and get out of crouch at the same time. maybe it will work out better, but until i play the thing (i wont be playing the beta, it would ruin the whole "first time playing halo 3" feeling when it actually comes out) i wtill continue to hate toggled crouching. •
Posted by: gReAsEm0nKeY510 maybe if you hold the crouch for longer than a few seconds it will stay on...?
Nice thought. I agree that this is another potential solution -- the toggle crouch will only kick in if you hold it for a second or two. I still think I would prefer what I originally posted (you only toggle crouch while on the ground), but I think what you suggested is a very solid alternative solution.
