I need someone who knows MYTH inside out

I know that it has been said SOOO many time that Halo doesn't relate to other Bungie Universes DIRECTLY but I got on a chain of thought that I can't follow properly because I don't know enough about MYTH.... the quote below is from another thread I posted in and the mention of Wyrd III optics is from the Spartan Laser update... help me someone there seems to be correlations that my feeble intellect cannot fully comprehend

The weapon has an integrated Wyrd III optics suite
weren't the wyrd a race in Myth? EDIT!!! Was Wyrd one of the OLD GODS in the MYTH series???? So Wyrd III could be Halo III meaning that the current Human race in H3 COULD be the catalyst for the events of Myth...
The Old Gods ruled over a world of spiders, Fetch, Callieach, and their kin. Wyrd and Nyx arrived from... somewhere. Wyrd created the world, fighting with Nyx about it, and Nyx created the Trow. The Old Gods shattered the One Dream. The Old Gods were banished, or by some other means wound up in an alternate realm. They initiated or somehow became involved in the cycles, sending new forces against the Trow every thousand years, climaxing with the Callieach, who created a portal back to their realm. Wyrd created the Younger Races as Trow civilization declined.
(from http://myth.bungie.org/legends/delusions/principia.html) is the world inside the Dyson sphere where Myt took place? Crazy idea... Nyx...ONYX???????????
• On page 20 of Myth GURPS, it says in reference to the Wind Age:
In his War effort Moagim organized the Myrkridia, who had been haphazardly terrorizing humanity since prehistory. After Moagim's tutelage, the Myrkridia were too numerous to count and as war-savvy as their limited intelligence allowed. These dreadful creatures ruled the night across the length of the land--and would continue to do so for centuries to come.
Now, I know that some people don't take Myth GURPS as canon, but I think this explains their origin somewhat and why the Myrkridia never obliterated the earlier civilizations. It seems as though they were there for milennia, but never had been organized enough to cause much harm until Moagim came into play. I can't really equate them to the Flood myself. Organizationally, yes. But everything else seems completely different. The Flood is much more like the undead in my opinion. At least, they are much more similar scientifically. However, if I had to pick something oldschool to equate them with, I'd probably go with the virus the S'pht created to kill off the Pfhor. Anyone else remember the concept art for the infected Pfhor? My main problem with connecting Myth and Halo (or Marathon for that matter) is the problem of Magic vs. Technology. Sure, some technology can be easily mistaken for magic. And, seeing what the Forerunner/Jjaro had at their disposal, you could put a lot of the magic in Myth into that category. But overall, there just seems to be too much magic use in Myth to have it fit into the same universe as Halo. Of course, magic and tech do blend together in Pathways into Darkness. And we know that PiD has Marathon connections...

 • But what I've never understood is just where the Myrkridia come from? If they were a native species, then Humanity, the Dwarves, fir'Bolg, and just about every other species in the world would have been annihilated. Surely the Trow would have come into conflict with them, yet they are silent on the matter. So that means that either they were limited in their ability to travel, trapped or restrained somewhere, had something limiting their expansion, or they are not native to the world of Myth. That they are perhaps a creation of the Old Gods.

 •
Posted by: RoboChocobo I personally think the greater comparison with the Flood lies with The Undead armies of the Dark, and their 1000 year cycle of destruction.
It is a reasonable argument, however I would tend to disagree. Some discrepancies can be made between the armies of the Dark and the Flood, so I still feel that the Myrkridia are more akin to the Flood than the undead armies of the Dark. First of all, the Flood acts as one immense unified force. This is certainly not true of the armies of the Dark, which are often plagued by infighting and betrayals. For example, the Watcher and the Deceiver nearly destroyed one another during the Great War, despite their common bond as fallen lords bound to Balor. Also, many of the different races that serve the dark do so for their own personal reasons. The Trow fought for Balor out of respect for what he did to their cities when he was known as Connacht and because he later, as Balor, freed them. When Soulblighter sought their allegiance sixty years later, they laughed at him. The same can be said of the Myrmidons, whose service was tied to Balor alone and were absent when Soulblighter returned on his own. The ghols fight out of ancient enmity for the dwarves. Thrall are merely mindless soldiers who follow their orders wtihout question. While many of the races to have a hatred of the civilized nations of Myth, they do not hate them for one lone reason. Also, the undead armies of the Dark are tied to the Leveler of the age. When Balor was killed, the armies of the Dark collapsed and the ties to the remaining fallen lords were broken, rendering the Dark defeated. If it were possible to stop the flood by killing some central leader or being, the Halos would not be necessary. Even though both the armies of the Dark and the Flood are largely composed of reanimated corpses, the armies of the Dark require only dead bodies and necromancy, whereas the Flood require flood carriers to possess the dead bodies. Therefore, while it is possible to create another army of the Dark once all the thrall on Myth are destroyed. If all of the Flood were to be completely destroyed, they would not be able to repopulate their species. The Myrkridia, on the other hand, are a seemingly unstoppable and unified force with the potential to destroy entire races. Myth has been plagued by the armies of the Dark numerous times through the ages, and always they were eventually defeated by humanity. While the Myrkridia were defeated, they were the single most ferocious scourge the denizens of Myth ever faced and their downfall required extreme measures (i.e. the Tain). This is similar to the Flood, which can only be destroyed by using the Halos.

 • As you already know, in Halo Wyrd refers to the optical system of a laser weapon and in Myth it is the deity that created all of Myth. Based solely on that, I fail to see a viable way to connect the two beyond their common name. Ender is correct, Wyrd was not one of the old gods of Myth. The One Dream was the basis of Wyrd's power and the old gods shattered it, seemingly to get revenge for something Wyrd had done to them. Connecting the Forerunners or the Jjaro to a group or entity in Myth has proven difficult. If you are really interested in the theory of connecting the complex stories of Bungie's games to one another, you should check out Ender's Theory of Unification group, where we really try to get into some of these ideas in detail. I'm sure Ender would love to have one more person with whom to theorize about Wyrd. It is tempting to try to connect Wyrd or Nyx with the Forerunners or the Jjaro, although the specifics can get a bit tricky when considering how each group or entity reacts with and is responsible for their respective worlds. For example, in Marathon Infinity it seems as though the Jjaro are still active enough to indirectly guide the SO to the correct path he must take to stop the W'rkncacnter, but we know that the Forerunners are all long dead and that Wyrd's power was dispersed and all but destroyed when the old gods shattered the One Dream. I doubt there is a way to convincingly connect the Trow and the Flood. It is true that they are both forces with terrible power. However, in Myth it is the Trow themselves who, after "poisoning the soul of iron" by killing all of their ogre servants, limit their own expansion and interaction with the denizens of Myth. The Flood is a parasitic life form which will never decide to stop expanding itself. If one were to choose a race of Myth to compare the Flood to, the obvious choice would be the Myrkridia. I could try to summarize most of what I know of Wyrd and how he may or may not be connected to Bungie's other games, but that would require a terribly long post, so for now I'll just leave it at this. If you have any more questions or want more info, feel free to ask.

 • I think it's also worth mentioning that one consider the nature of the storyline, the enemy, and the victory. 1) The Story is ancient. Myth TFL spends a great deal of it's narrative focus on the era's of old, the avatara, Connacht, Myrkrida, and the leveller. It also focuses on how these problems affect future generations. 2) The Undead horde of TFL swells, and covers the continent. Each loss of the Light only swells their number. Much like the flood 3) The only way through victory is through sacrifice. The Legion and Alric abandon the doomed plight of the West, knowing that the battles around Madrigal, White Falls, Willow, and Tandem will be lost no matter if they were there to participate in them. Instead they take their depleted force of over 2000, (Around only Half of the Legion), and they undergo a daring, and might I add, Bold strike into the heart of enemy territory, moving hundreds of miles north, to strike at the fortress of Balor Himself. There they sacrifice the 2000 of the legion in a feint, to give them time to lop off Balor's head. Then the survivors head to the Great Devoid, where (In the cannonical ending), the remaining survivors all sacrifice themselves at the edge of Soulblighter's blade to give the Dwarf enough time to hurl Balor's Head into the Great Devoid. So, the west sacrificed Madrigal, The Legion, The survivors, all to end the greater threat. Sounds alot like Halos.

 •
Posted by: Ender No, the Trow were giants that Nyx made from Tharsis. Wyrd was clearly a singular person as was Nyx. Wyrd had a son, Segoth, who was beheaded. I can see the Forerunner being in a civil war, especially because I think that the Jjaro was a faction of the Forerunner that represent The Watchers from Biblical lore. However, I don't think that Onyx was intended to destroy anything, simply protect the Reclaimers that wiped out the Flood. The Forerunner probably died out because they didn't make it to Onyx in time. I'm willing to bet that some ancient enemy of theirs decided to strike at that time. Say... a W'rkncacnter. Of course, I also think that the Dreaming God from PiD was a W'rk. And that the meteor that crashed into the Earth in the Yucatan was the comet from Myth, and that the Leveler and Wyrd stole a ride on it and ended up on Earth. Now I'm going off into tangents... We need someone more informed than myself. Sardonic or TGP, or anyone!
I'm hurt that you didn't mention me. Well then, into the fray! -Did someone say Watchers? Isn't there a nice 1 armed badass named "The Watcher"? - Every 1000 years a new species would arise, seemingly tunneling out from the earth, falling from the sky, or walk out of the ocean. They would come into conflict with the Trow, and the Trow would crush them. Seems to follow a certain spree of comet... - Wyrd's one dream was shattered, interpret that as you will.

 • Get Beowulf! I think this is just a sly reference for the oldskoolers who are paying attention; I don't think this is something to try to link those two universes together, because I don't think that would ever really work.

 • It could work though... if the Trow are the flood... and the forerunner were at civil war... EDIT!!! So if Wyrd wer one faction of the forerunners and Nyx another and Onyx was made as part of a plan to destroy Wyrd (along with the flood???) but they failed.... hence why no Forerunners remain?!?!?!? • Heh, I noticed the mentioning of Wyrd as well. Wyrd was the god who created the world of Myth, he was not one of the Old Gods. No, they beheaded his son in anger... As for Nyx and Onyx, they simply have similar names. Nyx was the godess that challenged Wyrd and ended up losing. She got her revenge by creating Tharsis and the Trow however. Although... the world of Myth being the Dyson Sphere is kind of interesting...
