The most logical use for the "X" button: (w/ diagram)
Press "X" for picnic table manouver.
Imagine it: An elite is rushing the Chief, energy sword blazing in the night. The Chief, clip empty, slips out of cover and charges the Elite. At the last second, as the ELite roars his challenge, the Chief leaps into the air, and turn into a picnic table!
The manouver is of such epic proportions, the Elite's brain undergoes nuclear fission on the spot, boiling his flesh away, before disapearing in a blinding flash of white.

Witnessing such an epic maneuver, the Prophet's brains begin to boil, and the flesh blisters away from their skulls. Gasping out their last cries of pain, the Prophets' heads explode in a blinding flash of white light and grey matter. "Um... Chief? Chief? We're waiting for the part where you turn back, Chief. This isn't funny, John!" *fades to black*

That should be the new xbox live menu you sit at a picnic table in 1st person, "press x to use cell phone and invite friend." then you see another spartan sit down with a ham sandwich.
