Soldiers with futuristic body suits and capes? And that giant vehicle/gun thing? For some reason that whole picture has a steampunkish tint to it, and it's disturbing. Steampunk and other, not quite similar styles (futurism mixed with things that just don't quite fit), just turn me off.

No not steampunk. More like a rugged survival space age type in my opinion. Looks really promising though.

Well to be fair, the image in question shows the people in what is presumably a cold environment. Assuming that that is correct, then it is possible that they are wearing cloaks, not capes, for warmth (perhaps further reinforced by the addition of what appears to be some kind of animal fur). As for the walking vehicle thing, it is possible that it was built to walk for better performance in rugged environments that would otherwise be hard to reach for ground vehicles (think AT-ATs from Star Wars). All that being said, this is concept art and we don't even know if the subject in question is even human judging by the 4 glowing eyepiece things on the helmet.

Doesn't look steampunk at all. Out of the concept images revealed, only one looks like it.
Posted by: Llama Salama I have a feeling that Bungie will create a melting pot of art styles for their new game. They will probably incorporate elements of steampunk, but that won't be the primary focus. Knowing Bungie, I'm sure that they will have a very original style.
Yeah I think it will be a mix of many different styles, too: steampunk à la Dishonored, sci-fantasy à la Star Wars and post-apocalyptic à la Fallout

I'd just like to point out that Steampunk is more than just an art direction, it's the state of the techology in the world. It could be partial, but still. Maybe it was too obvious to mention... If the legged tank is steampunk, it would have to be driven by steam in one way or another. I find that doubtful. Maybe it's steam, heated by uranium? idk... There are various types of close lying punks however, that use a very similar art direction. It all hangs on what they are limited to. [Edited on 12.24.2012 3:50 AM PST]

No, Crimson was.

Well, it would be a sad thing for you if Destiny is Steampunk influenced. I would actually love it as I think Steampunk to be very interesting! Who knows what Destiny may hold for us..

True.

Doesn't look very steampunk to me. Looks very Nausicaa Valley of the Wind.

We'll know more once more images come out, but I don't think there's anything to worry about based on what we have so far.

I think that even if it isnt a steampunk game it might have steampunk elements. Theyve been pushed back to their final city from a golden age. So some tech might be pushed back and replaced with old reliable steam.

A while back there was a bit of a ruckus on the forum. Apparently someone had discovered that someone was organizing a big steam punk gathering that was meeting outside of Bungie Studios, so we took it to mean that Bungie was looking for inspiration for their next game. However, DeeJ or Urk, can't remember which, came into the thread and confirmed that their next game wasn't steam punk and that they were just using the studio as a landmark or something.

Steampunk is poop, Im more of a cyberpunk guy myself, but i think this is more of a scifi medieval setting than steampoop
