Completely vertical like this?
or more of a pistol grip like this?
Keep in mind I am only asking about the forward grip, so do not base opinion on anything else pictured.
Any shooters that can vouch for either one? Which one is more comfortable?
This is what I currently have. 12 gauge, with a 20 inch barrel and ghost ring sights mounted.
Please no rage about guns. I have one, you will not convince me to give it up.
Posted by: im am b0red
Posted by: SpartanMk18 Eh, I would only go with a forward grip if you are using it without the butt stock.
See above picture to see what stock/grip I have.
Yeah, I saw it. Super Tacti-cooled shotguns have never been my style. I dig my walnut finish. I just need a shorter overall barrel length.

In my eyes I don't see any real advantage to a forward grip what so ever. I am even weary about a pistol grip to begin with on a 12 gauge. I've heard stories of people's wrists getting -blam!- up from the recoil while using a pistol grip on a 12 gauge.
I have a buttstock, my wrist are safe. Besides, I need to put something. Just having rails feels terrible and awkward.
Isn't the slide release a little harder to get to with a pistol-gripped Mossberg? You know they make polymer slides with no rails right? You don't HAVE to get a foregrip. Though if that is what you want.
Though, if I had to choose, I would drop that Mossturd and get an 870 because me, and I would go for option number 1. For some reason, option 2 screams Russian Mafia at me.
No one like a fan boy. "The Model 500 is the only shotgun to pass the US Army's Mil-Spec 3443E test, "a brutal and unforgiving torture test with 3,000 rounds of full power 12 gauge buckshot". The 870 was also tested. It failed.
I jest. I chose the 870 personally because I don't want a polymer shotgun. I don't want a shotgun pained up in camoed plastic. I wanted a gun with a wooden stock and wooden slide. That is what I got, a beautiful 870 with a walnut finish. It has dings and nicks now, but it's a field gun, it's supposed to be a little rough around the edges. You know what might work for you, the Magpul AFG It doesn't drop down to far, it will cover your rails, from what I hear, it runs great on a shotgun, and it looks pretty cool too.

Vertical feels more comfortable for me, but it is a personal preference.

Vertical for me. A front pistol grip puts my wrist at an awkward and uncomfortable angle.
Posted by: Gamma617g I think shotguns look kinda retarded with an additional grip. If you aren't man enough to make do with the default grip, use a different gun. Also, I find it awkward holding something with 2 grips like that.
Using the pump action is actually more normal-feeling with the grips, but it's harder to aim IMO because both your hands are below the gun rather than having one hand on it without a vert grip.

Vertical, or at least it works for me on my AR15.
Posted by: Cheesusslice you should just go to the local gun store and ask to hold a few guns with vertical and pistol grips. see which one is more comfortable/easier to use. not that it's complicated to use...
I plan on this before i buy but still... Everything feels comfortable while sitting still. But when I am firing 3" Slugs, thats when the real test begin.
Posted by: CruddiestBlock1 I've personally liked the vertical grip. The gun show is an M590a1 tactical shotgun if I'm not mistaken. Got a similar one back home.
M500 tactical, visually the same gun, very few differences.

I've never shot a shotgun with any type of foregrip, though a vertical foregrip seems the way to go.
