If a soccer ball hits you in the chest...

And the person kicking the ball used all their force into their kick but was about 15 feet away from you. Can that blow to the chest still do some lethal damage like stopping your heart or at least making it skip a beat?

  • No, unless you're a toddler or something and the kicker was a professional athlete. In fact I've stopped plenty of soccer balls exactly that way while playing and I never even got a bruise. [Edited on 11.30.2012 12:05 AM PST]

  • Probably deadly if you have heart problems.

  • If you hit it hard enough with your chest the ball might deflate.

  • I don't think so, I've experienced that a few times.

  • If it pierces your chest, there's a slim chance that your heart might actually stop [Edited on 11.29.2012 11:32 PM PST]

  • My friend kicked a football into my chest as hard as he could at like 10 feet. I was pretty badly winded but otherwise fine.

  • If you have a heart abnormality, any amount of high impulse force applied to the chest has the potential to be lethal. In healthy, normal individuals, any lethality from a soccer-ball is doubtful, as the ball deforms on impact, spreading the load. If you time a sharp blow with an inelastic object between heartbeats on even a normal person, one could potentially stop the heart. [Edited on 11.29.2012 11:22 PM PST]

If a professional soccer player used all their force to kick a soccer ball 15 feet away from you directly into your chest, I'm sure you would be unconscious, if not breathing. Subjective.

  • It will probably just hurt really bad. Knock the air out (your chest) for sure.

  • If it hits the area right below the center of your ribcage perhaps. There isn't much muscle or protection there.

  • Someone simply tapping your chest in place of the heart at the right time could kill you so yes. The soccer ball could -blam!- you up son.
