I've been noticing alot of people on this forum love to hate on CoD for using the same engine and having "same graphics" and I honestly don't see why they hate em, I personally think they're fine. Anywho, that's besides the point, Do you care about how good (or bad) graphics are in a video game? Or in other words, does the quality of graphics effect your view on a game?
As long as the game is fun, I don't mind graphics! Hell, I still play some gamecube and gbc games every now and again.

Yes, but gameplay is far more important.
Posted by: CrazzySnipe55 Depends on how it works with the game. If a game is 8-bit, I do not care. If its 3D and it looks like it should be on the original Playstation, I do care. If it's done by a small studio or a few people I cut them a bit of slack. If it's done by a subsidiary of a conglomerate and is just plain lazy, I do care. It's all circumstantial. Example: Shadows in Assassin's Creed III are -blam!-. Terrible. Embarrassingly bad. And add to a big list of reasons why the game was clearly rushed. This is not fine. Shadows in Minecraft are equally unimpressive but it's worked on by a small team, runs in Java, and it fits the overall blocky feel of the game. This is fine. ©
OH god, NOT THE SHADOWS, THIS GAME IS UNPLAYABLE UNPLAYABLE I SAY! WE SHOULD MARCH UP TO UBISOFTS HEADQUARTERS AND FORCE THEM TO CHANGE IT!

As long as the graphics are decent for its time, yes. They don't have to be the greatest in the world.

I want to be able to clearly identify what things are without having to really think about it. I remember in the past I'd sometimes get stuck because the game failed to depict the necessary tools to advance in the game. Ever had the "oh, that's a key" feeling? We're pretty much beyond that now, and to me a developer who pushes Amazing graphics as one of their key selling points is just showing feathers. I'm not concerned about graphics much anymore (with the exception of racing simulators). I'm now much more concerned with game mechanics.
-
Anybody who has played Morrowind or Dishonored can tell you that art style>graphics.
-
I can appreciate awesome graphics but they aren't that important to me.
-
They need to be good enough to represent the gameplay, atmosphere, characters and tone of the story accurately. Simpler games demand only simple graphics, vice versa so forth. Games based around exploration need to be pretty to have the player something nice to look at between action moments.
Posted by: Lifts Her Tail What do people think when someone says good graphics?
I think of smoothe fps, no "jaggies",,and moderate/far draw distance/render distance or whatever it's called.

Good graphics can only make a game better. I'm not saying that it will make a -blam!- game good, just make a good game better.
-
Posted by: thehippyelite Great graphics and 60 frames. That's why I'm a PC gamer
Good for you, no one cares.
-
Not at -blam!- all. Games dont have bad or good graphics, they just have bad or good art styles.
-
Good graphics are nice, but gameplay is more important.
Posted by: Hylebos Absolutely, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. Graphics are how you communicate information to the player, and if those graphics are inconsistant, confusing, or otherwise, then the player sure as hell isn't going to know what to do. It's SO much more than just "These graphics look more realistic than these graphics, so this game has better graphics than that game." Graphics absolutely do matter.
People do tend to mistake good graphics with realistic graphics.

Smoothing, high-res textures and very far draw distances are a must. They're pretty much the objective necessities for good graphics. Why would you not want a game looking more polished and crisp?
-
No. Look at Halo 4 it has nice graphics but it is a terrible Halo game.
-
I think art style is more important than graphics, but graphics are still an essential tool in emphasising the artistic theme of a game. Look no further than games like Journey and Halo 4, their art styles are absolutely gorgeous and that's supplimented beautifully by the graphics.
-
Great graphics and 60 frames. That's why I'm a PC gamer
-
To an extent, yes, but it's not like i'm not gonna play a game just because it has "bad" graphics. It's more about gameplay and story for me.
-
I need realistic graphics, or I am constantly reminded that I'm playing a video game.
-
Yes, I care, but I can make concessions for older games or art style. I'm not going to demand realistic lighting from an isometric 2.5D RTS. Also, CoD looks kinda grainy. Their lighting could be a lot better.
-
If the graphics for a modern game are worse than TES Oblivion than that is bad, if they graphics are that or better than I don't mind. If it is modded skyrim level graphics the devs need to focus more on other things. I have an exception for Minecraft because the graphics are an art style, kind of like how borderlands looks like a cartoon. Oh, and dated games like daggerfall, marathon, and doom.
