I just wrote a police officer a ticket

So today I saw a police officer parked in a yellow "no parking zone" But he wasn't responding to an emergency, He was at a 7-11 and he walked out with a big gulp. He was abusing his status as a police officer. And this is how I am about to knock him down a level for it. I live in Oregon. In Oregon it is a little known fact that you don't have to be a police officer, or a parking attendant to write someone a parking ticket. See ORS 153.058 Now back to the story. as the officer was coming out as soon as I saw that he was parked illegally I took a picture of him ( as he was coming out holding his big gulp, and of his car parked illegally. AND of him getting into his car. This is all of the evidence that I need to issue him a citation. I went on down to the police station and initiated the proceedings of filing the citation. Filled out his ticket, and took it down to the court house as per the instructions. At the courthouse I gave the nearly-finished ticket to the clerk who found an available court date. And then signed the ticket. And took an oath that the information was correct. This police officer is now going to receive the ticket in the mail with his court date. I will also be going to this court date where I will be presenting the photographic evidence of his illegal parking. He will have no excuse. tl;dr I wrote a police officer a ticket, and now he must appear in court. UPDATE: 500 replies w00t, I will be posting the pictures AFTER the court date. Due to legal/security reasons. [Edited on 11.18.2012 6:31 PM PST]

It all makes sense now.
I have never been diagnosed with aspergers.
You clearly either have autism or Asperger's, as evidenced by your inability to detect my sarcasm. Even if you've never been diagnosed with it. Maybe you should see a doctor. Just hope he doesn't declare you a mentally incompetent witness.

 •
Posted by: funkbrotha10 His attitude does not determine whether its abuse. His actions do.
Wow, you sound a lot like one of those guys who live strictly by a code. Often, motive dictates a response. Not an action, especially one that isn't very severe in the long run. It's not like everyone else is going to follow his example. You sir are looking at it in black and white. Edit: Oh I should have known. You got me op. I was just about to get philosophical. [Edited on 11.17.2012 10:45 PM PST]

 •
Posted by: AK 47625714
Posted by: The DMR Would the officer give someone a ticket if he did the same thing? More than likely, yes. So, although I would never do it because I couldn't give a f.uck less, I have no problem with what the OP did. Technically, it's the right thing to do, even though it's incredibly -blam!-, and the OP is likely a gigantic douche in real life.
>Says he has no problem with it >Calls the action -blam!- and the OP a douche Which is it?
The two aren't mutually exclusive. From an objective standpoint, he did the right thing. However, from my subjective perspective, anyone that would care enough to do such a thing is more than likely a giant dbag.

 •
Posted by: NoWise10 ...And I bet if the Police officer saw someone parked illegally at a 7/11, they wouldn't care. Funny. You are sad, OP. Find something better to do with your time, and that is coming from someone sitting on the Flood.
this police officer was not technically in the 711 he was in the street next to the curb that was designated for emergency vehicles to park in an emergency. He came out of the 7-11 If I parked exactly how he was I would get a massive ticket. and people would be honking at me nonstop. as I would be partially blocking traffic.

Police officers think that they can do whatever they want.
OR OR OR. He is a human being, and like thousands of other people, he parked in a no parking zone because he could. I highly doubt he parked there because he wanted to abuse his power. I just think of him as those people who take up two places. Also, you are a bit of an ass, he was getting a big gulp from a convenience store. Not abusing his power. If you wanted him to abuse his power, give him a reason to beat your ass.
As I have said before numerous times in this thread. It is impossible to tell what his thought process was in choosing to park there. What isn't impossible to tell, is that a parking violation took place. Which is why I wrote him the citation.
So why did you say he was abusing his power? Would you have written the ticket if it was some random?

 •
Posted by: theHurtfulTurkey
Posted by: funkbrotha10 except that there was no emergency.
Got it. Just Googled it and there is precedence of this. I was a bit confused because yellow curbs are usually loading zones/temporary parking here in Phoenix. You seem to be in the right, and I wouldn't call upholding the law a waste of time at all.
there should just be country wide street markings, so that people know the rules of the road in whichever state they are in.

 •
Posted by: hadlermaster Lol you sure showed him! Fight the system man!
This isn't as "radical" as most people make it out to be. I don't see what the big deal it. Its almost as if people think that police officers *should* be above the law. and allowed to do as they please.
