What do you think what relationship Cortana and Chief have?

So what kind of relationship do you believe Chief and Cortana have? We see even more of this at the end when Cortana talks to the Chief before she dies. It really shows that Cortana really cares about the Chief. But what type?
Do you think Cortana had romantic feeling for the Chief (which is why she wanted to touch his armor)?
Or does she love him....but not in a romantic sense....but as a very good friend/companion? Or maybe even as a mother figure? The idea that Cortana is the mother figure could be supported because she is a digital clone of Halsey, who herself was the mother figure to the spartans.
What type of relationship do you think the Chief have towards Cortana?
He really shows that he cares about her, especially when he didn't want to leave her/let her go in halo 4.
How does the Chief view Cortana in other words?
Is it possible that the Chief sees Cortana as a mother figure (well in the halo launch trailer, in the flashbacks, the image of John's mother was replaced by Cortana)?
If that is true, then the Chief basically sees Cortana as family, which would be a good reason why he stays very loyal to her in halo 4.
So what is your opinion on what type of relationship they have?
EDIT: IMO i think they are just close companions, not romantic.
