C.E. -The Trump Card

Was arguing with a guy at work about how great Halo was, and realized something. If there was one singular thing that separated C.E. from its contemporaries (and a lot of games since), it was enemy psychology. No other game did so much to make you believe the enemies were real. Varying states of alarm/quiet...many games still don't seem to have that. Or even non-combat animations half the time.

 • Yep, SG, same as the boss's kid. I actually forbade him from playing CE Flood levels. (They gave me nightmares...) Was nice when he was old enough to go through the whole thing. I used to slaughter him in versus...I can still slap him down in CE & 2, but, anything newer... I just watch him on Live when he's visiting and appreciate what younger reflexes can do. 'He was once but the learner...' Is weird but cool to have someone to discuss Halo with in person.

 • I don't talk about Halo with any of my real friends. Actually, come to think of it, if you exclude the time I played Halo 4 at my friends, I haven't talked about or played Halo since Spring. I guess I just like talking to you guys <3.

 • Ha-ha. Sounds very familiar. We actually developed a one-kill rule for vehicles - you had to abandon it after the first kill. (Because I actually didn't suck with a Scorpion) Take it easy on the old man, Sliding. (Don't let him win, for cripes sake...just remember all he taught you and how easy he took it on you back in the day...) Is hell to get old. My Dad used to complain that I 'had better reflexes' when we'd play NHL 94. I though it was a load until I found myself fumbling to keep up with my younger counterpart in 3 versus.
If only there was an option for that. He has a tough time willingly exiting the power vehicles... I try to but I tend to be too competitive. The only way I can be easy on him is if I try to trick/glitch (i.e. launching myself out of the Banshee, getting to the sniper spots).

 • Well, there's always the Anaheim versus Detroit option. We used to do that. Maybe make new rules where you can only melee or stick him for a kill. He - can do anything. I could still best pappy using a shabby team like Florida, and it was fun. Pops actually had a fighting chance and I had to dig deep. That way, a win is a win.

I'm waiting for the modders to extend campaign modding options so I can finally make engagements more interesting. [Edited on 12.12.2012 5:32 PM PST]

My KDR in campaign...a distant memory. Mod something that resembles fairness for S.O. and I'm on the Sliding mailing list for life.

But even then, it might not be accessible for everyone. :/

 •
Posted by: chickenlittle Spops is fun and annoying at the same time. Infinite lives really helps though.
It's more...somewhat campaign, but not really. Am getting a little tired of hitting active cammo and having enemies deliver perfect headshots despite. (Same with an enemy getting nailed to the wall by a mounted gun and somehow being able to aim perfectly.) Am actually beginning to predict the douchey nature of "Just at that moment" enemy actions... I can generally get anything done on Legendary. Am thinking about inviting old Zumbo up for my latest attempts at achievements.
The camo works for once (it was worse in Reach), having saved me when engaging the Elite snipers on Requiem. But I'd still rather have that CE camo where I could have extended fun with it. It was a great way to get up close to the AI. Next up on the list would either be Halo 3 Cloaking or Arby's camo since my movement wasn't inhibited. Basically: CE camo > Halo 2/3 > Halo 4 > Halo: Reach IMO [Edited on 12.13.2012 9:45 PM PST]

 • The camo generally is completely useless for the first 3-5 seconds, when you start shooting, or if you get close. That leaves you a good 10 seconds to actually do something productive with it. @ nesty -hit me up if you need a partner. Zumbo is being a douche right now. [Edited on 12.14.2012 2:14 PM PST]

 •
Posted by: Sliding Ghost I must know what other games have it!! Do tell us Invasion, of the games that are from 2003 and up. I still have enough Microsoft points to buy a game...
Republic Commando's AI was superb. In many situations, if you and your squad didn't push the enemy, they would start pushing you. The AI never "idled" like in CE, but the AI made combat fluid. But if you play RC, you play it for the squad gameplay, though its multiplayer was also really good.

Again, idling is replaced with smart "hunting" AI. Republic Commando is pretty fast-paced to begin with, you wouldn't even notice whether or not they like to idle because you too busy finding ammo for you weapons and re-positing and giving roles to your squad member for your next engagement. I will admit the maps are...somewhat linear, but that's not out of laziness; its so squad combat is fully optimized.

Well I've seen it mentioned on the Flood several times. I'll check it out eventually.

 • Thanks for the offer, Misguided (&chicken). After ten+ years of playing with myself, am not sure I'd know what to do with a partner. (Insert "giggity." For reals, gave my headset to a guy at work. And I only have strategy for Ep. 5, Ch.1 achievement. The generator thing should be doable with 2 people, but, the survivor thing....uh...?) PM me if you're desperate. The Live trial is good for a few more days, but I'll only try on Legendary. Have only played 4 on Legendary, and, achievements be damned, I'm only playing it that way. Is my hangup.

 • I couldn't agree more. It is always a stuggle to take down an elite. You get to know their behaviour and then they suprise you and stuff. It's awesome and great for replay-ability.
