When you play halo pc, there are many players out there with names with crazy symbols that are not on the keyboard.
Many of us wonder what they are, and how to get them
Well, they are alt codes, which are codes typed into the computer using the alt button to create special characters.
for example, alt 0191 would make that >> ¿ symbol, upside down question mark.
Now you're wondering how I found that out.
Well, there's a great wikipedia article with tons of characters that you can get using alt codes.
I'll briefly explain the columns on the page.
Alt and no leading zero means you hold down the alt key, and enter the number in the left column on the page to get the character. Now if you hold down alt and hit the zero and then the numbers, most of the times you can get different characters.
Alt and x is the same thing, hold down alt, then press x, then the number, I tried testing it on here but most characters wouldn't appear here, unless I did it wrong. You can test them out on notepad or word.
for example, my profile name in halo pc is «TUI»FsTmAt, I'm part of a clan so the clan leaders gave me the codes, but you can make your own using those codes.
if you have questions you can ask, hopefully this helps the new guys who don't know how to get the characters

The shortest I can get it is MAWDarkster, which looks horrible. Honestly, I always prefered {clantag}Name over ~clantag~ name [Edited on 10/22/2006]

Darkster, the MAW Clan tag is "MAW~", not "~MAW~ ". You will save yourself two whole characters!

Using one or two symbols is okay. Replacing your entire name is just dumb.

No, I wasn't. Alt +

I don't think any less of people who use alt-codes in their names but I believe that it is a rather silly, gimmicky thing to do.

Im looking for something like this. I remember that you can edit some text files to have your HPC name anything you want. The reason, my name doesn't fit with the ~MAW~ clan tag. I want it to be ~MAW~ Darkster2, the best I can get right now is ~MAW~ Dark [Edited on 10/21/2006]

OR....If you cant use alt codes, such as on a laptop, you can use ShortKeys Lite. You can put it something like HMC, and then it will change it to HMDz, or TUI will change to «TUI», etc, depending on what you tell the program to do.
