I wouldn't normally suggest something like this, but things are out of hand. The Flood is drowning in them (not right now, but lately). Generally they escalate into one-sided rants or flame wars.
While I don't like the idea of another topic being ban or warning worthy, I feel the number of these threads detracts from the variety of the flood.
What do you guys think?
-
I say no as well for just banning because of the topic, but like other people said if it goes off into something completly different and against the forum rules then maybe.
-
There should be a word or phrase for not realizing that you're currently complaining about an aspect of a cycle that you're currently taking part in and that will continue to revolve for the rest of the time you're a part of it and thereafter with nearly identical results. I'll call it Unobservant Cyclicism. [Edited on 10.04.2012 12:44 PM PDT]

Not in the flood

What do you guys think?
I say keep it as it is. It's the Flood, it's for off topic discussions and Halo 4 is off topic in regards to the Bungie Forums. Now if those threads start violating the Forum rules (such as flaming) then they should be locked and bans handed out as necessary. But I don't believe that simply creating the thread should be a ban-worthy offense.
-
I don't see a problem, the Flood always get filled with threads about popular games when they are close to release. It's just slightly worse with Halo 4 because the majority of people probably came here for Halo to begin with.

There is not another forum on the website that is more appropriate for the topic of Halo 4 than The Flood.
Posted by: A 3 Legged Goat
Posted by: st3althsniper22 The Flood is for Off-Topic discussion. Halo 4 is Off-Topic. Where's the problem?
People are saying it looks like a Halo 4 forum.
And when CoD comes out, it looks like a Battlefield forum. And when there is a Microsoft press conference news, it looks like a Xbox.com forum. And when Halo 3 came out, it looked like a Halo 3 forum. [Edited on 10.04.2012 10:29 AM PDT]

Nope, if they stay in The Flood, then it'll be fine.
-
Bungie used to be the people who developed Halo games. It would be completely wrong to ban people who want to discuss the latest Halo 4 news. Either Bungie makes a Halo 4 forum, or tolerates it. Anything else would be unacceptable.
-
No, they shouldn't be.
Posted by: evilcam You know what we should do away with? Users who have numbers in their names.
Well -blam!-

This is a forum primarily inhabited by video gamers and is located on the site of the company that created the Halo franchise. I don't see this happening. If you see users getting out of line with abuse or harassment, use the report feature. Or just ignore them.
-
No, but popularity threads should be.
-
Evilcam put it best. Though, I do agree it has somewhat become the unofficial Halo 4 Forum, it's to be expect when a game, that has this caliber of fandom, is about to be released. Especially when the hosts of this site use to develop said games/universe. It'll die down come a few weeks after launch.
Posted by: evilcam You know what we should do away with?
Posted by: evilcam I don't think Halo 4 threads should be disallowed. Its one of the big topics in gaming, people want to talk about it. They're going to talk about it. ...If people take advantage of Bungie giving them a place to talk about that stuff by being abusive to other users, we'll deal with them. We don't need to do away with the topic altogether.
Agreed. Very well put.
-
Such a rule would be opposed to the nature of this site... This site and it's community has deep roots in Halo. And I'm sure that this won't be a long lasting "issue". If it is, we could always just have a "Halo Forum" link that redirects to the Waypoint forums, to alleviate some pressure.

banning h4 as a topic is ridiculous and bungie would never allow it

I say lock the ones that are just plain retarded.
I suggested an official Halo 4 topic before, but people would abuse it and it would probably end up as a flame war after a few pages.
That would be a really good idea, just getting it to stick is the problem.
There are always Halo groups, so I urge people to join mine or others if they want a place to discuss the game. The posts go in the flood because people aren't joining the groups.
I just joined yours which I should have done earlier. But it's like a group has to have 1000's of members for it to be effective and productive.
