Not the all-too common "HAR HAR YOUR MOM HAR HAR", but intricate posts that make you wonder if the OP is actually being serious or not. Or just threads/posts that are obviously trolling but it's so well done that everyone enjoys it.
Should these types of posts/threads be banned?

"Please don't shoot at the thermo-nuclear weapons!" Broken Arrow droppage.

Who could reply to that? Scripture? But that is on topic? Wha? Argues that high quality "social-tensioning" (trolling is far too crass a term) is an art that should not be wasted on the unappreciative Philistines. Soho, 30 feet above the sidewalks, where if people try to look at it, they end up getting mugged, but fashionably mugged, of course.

Satire doesn't mean trolling. Trolling is anything that is said with the intent of enraging the ones reading. Satire is just humour. Skilful trolling is someone that is pretending to to not understand your valid points, he would be undistinguishable from a genuine idiot. There is no difference between it and an undesirable poster.
-
Skillful trolling is already allowed, the most skillful trolls are never revealed to be trolls.
-
A good troll goes undetected, therefore, no ban.
-
Exhibit A.
-
I maintain that satire is equivalent to the height of trolling, and "trolling" should be allowed if the poster can meet that mark.
-
I agree with LF2.

Son, I would have been banned a long time ago. So, it depends on who you are trolling. The moderator does that all the time nowadays.
Posted by: Unanimate Objec
Posted by: Grimaldus Clockman was amazing! I say go for it, though eventually they should slowly phase out...running the same joke for months might just make it sour.
Clockman was way too good. Should master trolling be allowed? Yes. Should blatantly obvious trolls with no self esteem be allowed? Maybe.
How do we know we were definitely being trolled by the Clockman story? Did we just assume so because no one found him? OT: As others have said, as long as you're trolling doesn't count as spam, or being a jerk, there's no issue with it.
-
You just contradicted yourself. Do skillful trolls cause or not cause people to get banned?
-
Posted by: funkbrotha10 Skillfull trolling is allowed because a skillfull troll will get people to rage without breaking any rules.
-
Skillful trolling will get others banned.
-
Skillfull trolling is allowed because a skillfull troll will get people to rage without breaking any rules.
-
Yah, it's not bannable anyway.
Posted by: True Underdog
Posted by: CrazzySnipe55
Posted by: True Underdog Can someone point out the "no trolling" rule in the rules for me? I don't see it.
Some instances of "trolling" can violate the "don't be a jerk" rule. But, other than that, stuff like the Primo thread I linked are perfectly legal, imo.
Trolling does not always mean harassment.
I don't know who is arguing what here but if anybody thinks there is a clear cut definition between trolling and not trolling they're under the false security of ideological assumption. One could argue sarcasm is a form of trolling FFS. I think the point is that if it's not a big deal (in other words, not violating the "don't be a jerk" rule), it's not really important in the context of this forum to consider "trolling."

Happens in this forum all the time. Old members have a very dry sense of humour.
