Reverse Mail Sack.

Okay, Bungie Community. You asked for the spotlight. Don't melt in its rays. Below are questions submitted by the developers who spend as much time wondering about you as you do about them. Suggested Guidelines: Please post in this thread only once. Failure to honor this request will result in forfeiture of your privilege to participate (or worse). I would recommend only answering the questions that really speak to you. Don't force this. I'll be looking for humor or sage wisdom that could benefit us all. And, more than a sentence or two will be heavily edited or ignored completely. No monologing. Have a ball! Oh, and QUOTE the questions you are answering. The zombie apocalypse is upon us. Most of humanity has already fallen to the hordes of flesh-eaters. You have survived because of your ingenuity, cat-like reflexes, and dashing good looks. As you travel in search of food, you find a grizzled old man who offers to give you a powerful weapon. Now is your chance to make a difference in this battle against the undead. You can choose any one weapon, real or fictional. What do you choose and why? What do you think is missing from video games right now? Which do you think makes a better e-sport: DOTA, League of Legends, or Starcraft 2? Why? Top Five MCs? (That stands for Master of Ceremonies, not Master Chief. Please answer in the form of five YouTube links.) How and when did you first fall in love with Halo? Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie) Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general? What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online? What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year? If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be? Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why? [Edited on 09.18.2012 9:40 AM PDT]

 •
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Halo Combat Evolved. 4 people sitting around a 17" tv playing 2v2 CTF on blood gulch. Been hooked ever since.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
Playing co-op Left 4 Dead. First game I joined ended up being a regular team for months. Nothing beats cool people playing awesome co-op games together.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Civ 5. Just... Just one more turn...

 •
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
I would have to teach them how to understand one another. A large majority of conflicts could be solved if people actually listened and attempted to understand the other point of view. Instead most just ignore what the other is saying.

 •
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
{09/20/12 12:20pm pdt} edit: Console games being fun without special online features. ingame cheat codes unlockable by doing certain things, remember like contra, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, (select) Start. Or Doom IDKFA, IDDQD, 007 373 5963, or even in halo CE the skulls made the game with unlimited ammo, what do these kinds of things bring? replay value! Original answer: a good FPS/RPG hybrid that doesn't look like a cartoon.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Christmas Day 2010- ended my Microsoft Strike, bought a 360 to prove to my nephews i'm a better gamer, got pwned, but loved the story, read the books, loved bungie.
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harrasment or unsporting behavior in general?
No, I think with the diversity of players out there, trying to be a good patron more often leads to stimulating more of the opposite.
What is the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it?
unfair question, due to my age/experience. I'm sure it had to do with either Atari or Commodore 64, but I couldn't tell you exactly what the first game i ever played was (it only took 1) Maybe Star Raiders on the 5200? or Zaxxon, blue max? •
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
For the most part, I don't find games missing things as much as incorporating too many things. At least in the shooter genre. It's like every game now wants to be everything to everyone, and they all lose the niche that made them great to begin with. Shooters all want to have RPG progression system. They all want class trees and abilities now. They all have to mix vehicles in with foot soldiers. They all need to have everything that was successful somewhere else. IMO, the result has been many new games that are nearly identical, and all worse than their original forms.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Likely it will be Borderlands 2, but too soon to tell. Right now, I'd say Mass Effect 3 provided the most bang for the buck.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
Vaccines won't make your kid retarded.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Super Mario Brothers. Been playing ever since.
Zombie Weapon?
Wabbajack from Elder Scrolls. It solves two problems at once. Gets rid of zombies, and has a good chance of turning them into a chicken. So, less zombies, more food. •
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
The Elder Scrolls Series by Bethesda Game Studios/Bethesda Softworks Why? For years before I discovered this series, I had been a Table Top RPG gamer. I've been playing games since the Atari 2600, but every Friday and Sunday night was RP'ing night with my best friends. And we played many Table Top RPG's as well. AD&D, D&D 3rd Edition, Vampire: the Masquerade then Vampire: the Requiem when the game evolved that way, etc. Our adventure were legendary. So I had just gotten deep into PC gaming at the time, and one of my best friends suggested a new game for me. He described it as "everything we love about table top gaming, but on your rig". Well, this was a suggestion from one of my best friends, so why wouldn't I go check it out? From the moment I finished creating my first character, I fell maddeningly in love with The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. I dumped so much time into that game... I shudder to think of the things I could have accomplished if I had spent that time doing anything else. Coupled with some heavy doses of the Marathon Series, I went from being a "Casual" Gamer to Hardcore. Once the first Xbox dropped into our eager Gamer hands, I got Halo: Combat Evolved as well. That game did for FPS's what the Elder Scrolls did for RPG's. Then my social life went into the toilet with the release of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for the Xbox. Needless to say, between the Halo series and the Elder Scrolls series, I really only play those two franchises. PEople may not say that I'm "Hardcore" because I don't play that many different games, but I spend 40+ hours on the 360 every single week. That's more time than I spend at work. lol But I digress. These two series are what really got me rolling into Gaming. Gaming has become my only hobby, and luckily, I married a Gamer (she's into the Assassin's Creed series. ;)), so she understands perfectly. Without Marathon, Halo, and The Elder Scrolls, I don't think that I'd be the same guy that I am today. I'd definitely be more boring. For the future, I'm very much looking forward to Halo 4, but I'm infinitely more excited about Bungie's next game. Once that drops, I'll probably have to quit my job just to make sure that Bungie's game gets the love and time that it deserves. lol But that's my experience, and I thank you, Bungie, for being such a huge part of my life and bringing such great games into it. Peace out. Uriel S167 GT = Vampire Nox

 •
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
hm... YES,Call Of Duty on the computer. My father introduced me to it in third grade, and i gotta hand it to him. i still it play to this day with my uncle and his friends. You think i grew up with Call Of Duty, but i didn't because the very next year, i came into contact with Halo 2. So Halo 2 and Call Of Duty set me up as a gamer. [Edited on 09.19.2012 9:27 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: DeeJ What do you think is missing from video games right now?
First-person space fighter sims. A la Freespace, Tie Fighter, or even Starlancer.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
The year was 1999 the place was a small video game shop in our local mall. I was but a young lad, but even then I knew the demo reel playing out on screen before me was something special.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? Always a good feeling.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
Wellll, I would like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Oh definitely. The original Metroid, first game I ever "beat". I sunk hour after hour into that game trying to figure it out. But once I :spoilers: finally killed Mother Brain and jumped out of that final shaft. A whole new world opened up before me. *Cue Disney Music*

 •
Posted by: DeeJ What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Emotion. A lot of games are in such a rush to ship that they basically plop a character in that you don't care about. You give me a character I care about (like Clementine, The Walking Dead Game) and I'll gladly give you my money.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
Kindness.

I just think that if that were ever to be made into a game the possibilities for story content and future installments would be tremendous.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Gears of War.
Only one I feel like answering Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II for the Gamecube. Objectively, it's not really a great game. Visuals are decent, gameplay is extremely repetitive, slow to gain any significant reward from it, story is pretty shoddy. But my god if I don't love that game so much. I played it for hours and hours. With friends and alone. And I think playing with friends is what made it so great in the first place. Knowing the my buddies and I are were all going over to one's house to stay up all night playing Phantasy Star, that was a big deal. We'd look forward to those weekends so much. And even though it meant hitting the same one button over and over, and being sequestered to a tiny box on screen. We still did it, and we still loved it. And I love it to this day. And now I feel obligated to start playing again dammit...

What was it and why?
You know, as weird as this sounds, Donkey Kong 64 is one of those games that tipped the scale. This isn't to say that there weren't other games I enjoyed, but it was a fun package of exploration, puzzle solving and throw backs to the games that started the franchise. Oh, and fighting the Gloomy Galleon boss while puttering around in a Barrel Boat. Need I say more?

 •
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Genuine humor. I'm not talking about the cheesy jokes. I'm talking about the humor that we can relate to. Something that stands out and makes you think "That reminds me of [insert famous celebrity/notable world event/something everyone would know about]".
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
I was playing Xbox at a friends house when I was 11 years old. He popped in Halo 2 and we played co-op for about 6 straight hours. After that, I begged my parents to get me an Xbox specifically so I could play Halo.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? The game has so much replay value. I can play it again and again without having the same experience every time.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
Understanding. I know so many people in my life who base their judgments of a person solely on what they have heard about other people. People need to learn to stop making generalizations about every person they meet on the street or on the internet.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Definitely Super Mario 64. I played that game so much as a kid and I still love the franchise to this day.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Right from the start in 2001 after continuously getting my ass kicked at LAN parties with Goldeneye, we moved onto Halo where I kept getting my ass kicked...
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Must have been late 2002, when I was hideously underaged to be playing a game like Halo. They get sucked out into space. It's the universes problem now.
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Rich and fulfilling co-op experience in an open sandbox world.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
The year was 2004, my bestfriend had gotten Halo 2. We would play co-op campaign for weekends in a row. Just replaying it. Exploring Outskirts, getting out of the map. Playing around with an energy sword elite. Making fun mini-games out of the campaign. (Due to a lack of live)
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? But I wouldn't know where to start to correct that behavior. The anonymity of the internet provokes it.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
Teaming up to do a vidmaster in Halo 3. I had already gotten Recon, but my friend didn't, so we went into a matchmaking lobby to find some people who wanted to get the achievement (The one with the ghosts). We ended up playing for a couple hours having a blast with these 2 other strangers.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
This year? 2012... I'd say Borderlands as of right now. It's the game I've put the most hours into, but Halo 4 will change that probably.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
Walking etiquette. How to walk properly. Don't walk slowly infront of people, move aside for people passing you, don't stop in the middle of a hallway or infront of a door, I hate you, stop it.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
There are many, I grew up with the NES, so a number of titles got me hooked. Mario, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda. But I'm going to go with Battletoads. That frustrating game was a great co-op experience, and pushed me to the brink with it's extreme difficulty.

 •
The zombie apocalypse is upon us. Most of humanity has already fallen to the hordes of flesh-eaters. You have survived because of your ingenuity, cat-like reflexes, and dashing good looks. As you travel in search of food, you find a grizzled old man who offers to give you a powerful weapon. Now is your chance to make a difference in this battle against the undead. You can choose any one weapon, real or fictional. What do you choose and why?
Portal Gun. I'll build a one-way path to me, and my house will be atop a hill. To get to the house, will be a long narrow path, and at the end, on the ground, will be my portal leading back to the beginning of the path.
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
A proper community. One that doesn't hate every change, one that loves each other in the community.
Which do you think makes a better e-sport: DOTA, League of Legends, or Starcraft 2? Why?
I can't have much of an opinion on this, as I haven't played, nor watched any gameplay of these games.
Top Five MCs? (That stands for Master of Ceremonies, not Master Chief. Please answer in the form of five YouTube links.)
No idea what that means. ;D
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Playing through Halo 2's campaign with my Dad. We would always kill eachother one way or another every mission. It was amazing.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie)
Tropic Thunder. Yup..
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general?
Definitely. I can't stand some of the community members of many genres. Constant bashing, complaining, and 'trolling' needs to stop, in my opinion.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
Me and around 6 others were playing forge on Halo Reach on a map called "McDonald's" but being the rebels we were, we decided to call it "KFC" and constantly run in there asking for chicken, trying to rob the store, and kill all inside.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Out of gameplay so far, either Diablo 3, or Borderlands 2. I've played the hell out of Diablo 3, and Borderlands 2 is just an amazing game so far. I can't wait to see what else surprises me in it.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
To be loving people.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
I can't. Halo is what made me into a gamer. Just the huge amounts of fun I had with it turned me into a game loving addict. I played Halo 2, and that made me want to try other games, first being Medal of Honor, then when Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 came out, I knew I was a gamer.
