Reverse Mail Sack.

Okay, Bungie Community. You asked for the spotlight. Don't melt in its rays. Below are questions submitted by the developers who spend as much time wondering about you as you do about them. Suggested Guidelines: Please post in this thread only once. Failure to honor this request will result in forfeiture of your privilege to participate (or worse). I would recommend only answering the questions that really speak to you. Don't force this. I'll be looking for humor or sage wisdom that could benefit us all. And, more than a sentence or two will be heavily edited or ignored completely. No monologing. Have a ball! Oh, and QUOTE the questions you are answering. The zombie apocalypse is upon us. Most of humanity has already fallen to the hordes of flesh-eaters. You have survived because of your ingenuity, cat-like reflexes, and dashing good looks. As you travel in search of food, you find a grizzled old man who offers to give you a powerful weapon. Now is your chance to make a difference in this battle against the undead. You can choose any one weapon, real or fictional. What do you choose and why? What do you think is missing from video games right now? Which do you think makes a better e-sport: DOTA, League of Legends, or Starcraft 2? Why? Top Five MCs? (That stands for Master of Ceremonies, not Master Chief. Please answer in the form of five YouTube links.) How and when did you first fall in love with Halo? Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie) Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general? What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online? What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year? If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be? Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why? [Edited on 09.18.2012 9:40 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: DeeJ How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
My not-so-exciting not-affair with Halo started at a really young age when I saw my brother playing. I wasn't that young but I was confused why my brother was fighting what I perceived to be squids... and why they were fighting back. Darn squids.

 • I was going to answer so many questions, but this caught my eye and I am going to go on a freaking rampage. <3
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general?
Absolutely. A better attitude in gaming, be it causal or competitive, is going to start with the attitude of the gamers. Developers can only do so much to quell the bad behavior of the masses. I started playing online games when I was twelve years-old. As you can imagine, I've dealt with a lot of unruly people since then just because of my gender. But my gender isn't the only targeted demographic. People are harassed because of their race, nationality, and -blam!-ity. And how is it defended? "It's just a game!" "This is just our culture as gamers!" Bull-blam!-. I do not get online because I want numerous profanities thrown at me. I get online to play a game and to have fun. But for some reason, a bunch of people think that it's okay to say horrible things online; things that they'd never say in person. So, what do we actually do to discourage online harassment? Gamers, you need to call it out as you see it. Don't stay quiet when some jerk is verbally ripping someone to shreds online. You're making that victim feel alone and helpless. This is what happens when people don't speak up. Watch all of that footage. Watch, as Aris beats the living hell out of Super_Yan's love for games. At first, she blows it off and pretends to ignore Aris' comments. But you get to eventually see someone break. Gamers, is that okay? Occasional trash talk is fine. Anything competitive comes with it. But when you target someone, and target their very being and insult them over a game, there's an issue. It takes a lot more maturity to have good sportsmanship than to devolve into senseless -blam!--throwing fights in games. Developers, don't be afraid to bring down the hammer on jerks in your game. Riot has done an excellent job of reducing harassment in their games. For instance, chat is automatically muted, the tribunal system is in place, and as I learned at PAX Dev, Riot found out that their playerbase is good at heart. The players don't like having jerks around, and are more than happy to help get rid of them. Appeal to your player base's sense of camaraderie and respect. Because it is there, despite the jokes about the maturity level of Halo players. And be aware that many people have stopped playing online games because of the harassment. These people won't buy DLC and can eventually stop buying games altogether. The community's attitude can make or break customers. Want to know why my last game of Halo was a really long time ago? I'm going to bet that you can guess by now. I want to be able to use my mic without being called a slut or fat. I love games, but I don't love being harassed. This is going to be a team effort between gamers and developers.
Posted by: DeeJ What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
I'd say it was when I met a good friend of mine while playing Halo PC. It started out as a serious game on Timberland which eventually developed into us doing glitches and casually talking. Started off one of the greatest friendships I've ever had. •
Posted by: DeeJ The zombie apocalypse is upon us.
Seeing as how any gun would eventually run out of ammo. Green Lantern's Ring would eventually need to be charged, I'd have to choose Iron Man's suit. Because it is known to be solar charged.
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Something new to be quite honest. Developers aren't taking risks with new ideas, and games end up being exactly the same year after year. Oh it's another FPS, another RPG, another Zombie game; nothing is changing.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
My dad had to test a military simulation game for the U.S. Army and they said that they recommend buying an Xbox to play it at home. So it was November 11th 2003 when my dad decided to get the Xbox and he said: "what game do you want for your birthday son?" I said: "Umm...that game looks cool" *points at Halo box*. So after he tested a military combat simulation, I played a sci-fi shooter.
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general?
I think if they gaming community acted as they would if they weren't shielded with anonymity, there would be drastically less harassment and unsporting behavior.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
It would have to be when I was trying to do the Vidmaster Achievement by finishing the last level in Halo 3 on Ghosts. Me and my brother were playing co-op, and we needed someone to play as 3 and 4. So we went through and invited random people from our history. So a stranger joined us, and he turned on his extra controller to "play" as the fourth. Lots of good times occured when we were trying to push a fourth ghost all the way through the final race! I never played with that stranger again, but we shared a sense of comraderie that I truly never felt before online.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Skyrim. I've spent so much time in that game doing new things constantly. I even now discover something new after countless hours of playing with same character. The hours to dollar value ratio is amazing.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
To do what you love to do. Why? The best painter is the one who loves to paint, and the best runner is the one who loves to run. You usually do your best work when you love what you're doing because you enjoy every second of it.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
I'd have to say Mortal Kombat. I was about 4 years old when my dad got a floppy disk and put it into the old computer we had. I memorized all of Scorpion's moves and just loved the challenge that Goro was.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie)
The Warrior's Way The idea of ninjas versus western cowboys was presented is such an awesome way.

 •
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
After getting the game winning kill in Halo:Reach with a Needler, I received a message from someone on the other team saying, "Nietzsche wouldn't use a Needler!" (I have a Nietzsche reference as my "motto"). We had a good chuckle over it and ended up playing a few games together. Personally, I think he would use whatever weapon you would least expect.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
Don't talk with a mouthful of food you slobs!
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
The original Gran Turismo. I spent a lot of time with that game. I enjoyed the ability to upgrade, tune, and (to an extent) customize the cars. The detail and customization options of racing simulators now are remarkable, and I really think players enjoy making their experience personalized to them and completely customizable. That goes for all genres of games.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie)
Obviously, you'd play a a detective whose job is to find people's pets. [Edited on 09.19.2012 10:17 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: DeeJ What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Innovation and risk taking. Far too many once-great studios have fallen victim to bland, derivative sequelism. Sequels in and of themselves aren't bad, but when, short of the graphics tweaks and a few new shiny bits, the games are indistinguishable, studios should be taking a long and hard look and themselves and their work.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Game? I can point to the very moment. It's even in HD. [Edited on 09.18.2012 2:03 PM PDT]

 • ZA - Torn between a Hanzo sword and a good old fashioned shotgun. Missing video games - The ability to play against more than 16 people on a console really irks me. Especially having watched all those PC BF3 vids with 64 people in one game. Halo - I didn't enjoy Halo at first, I just couldn't get used to the idea of moving and looking on two different control sticks. So it went to the bottom of my new games pile, then one day I took it out again and something just clicked. When did I fall in love with Halo - The final run through the Autumn, the ship's blowing up but you think you're safe when Foehammer appears. Then you see the flames coming out of her engines and she is blown out of the sky and you get maybe five seconds of really moving music. Still gives me chills. also "oh no not again!" makes me chuckle everytime. Harrasment - could we be doing more? The answer is an obvious yes, the only question is how can we do more? If I'm in a lobby and I here someone being treated unfairly I do try and stop it. But the anonymity the internet provides means people can act like jerks without any consequence. Short of having moderators in every game I honestly don't know what can be done. Best Game Value for Money - The Walking Dead - simply magnificent. One Idea - Fair play Other game - Sonic the Hedgehog, just the thrill of racing through a level, me being in complete control it made you feel awesome even though you were just sitting on your couch.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
He isn't a complete stranger, many people know him well it was my first time playing with him though. His name is Greenskull. I decided to tweet him and asked him if he wanted to play a game of reach. I never Expected a reply. But at last I saw that tiny little bird on my Phone with a message. From None other then Greenskull saying he would play a game with me!It showed me there are some awesome fans and people in the gaming community.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
It was the rainbow six games on the Sega dreamcast. It was the First FPS that I thought was awesome and that me and my brothers battled it out in. at the time I thought the graphics were amazing and thought it was so cool someone made it. •
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
It all started when I was ten and I wasnt allowed to play Halo. My dad got this demo disc with some magazine, OXM possibly, and on it was Halo: Combat Evolved. The demo mission was "The Silent Cartographer" and all I did was walk around the edge of the island without my parents knowing I was playing it. I thought that the game was very cool and soon after, I found myself playing the whole Halo: Combat Evolved campaign with my dad on Christmas.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
My favorite memorable experience with a strange while gaming online was meeting one of my favorite friends. I was playing Halo 3 on sandtrap when I saw someone "goosing" so I decided to have some fun and play along and goose with him. After the game, he sent me a friend request and we became amazing friends. To this day, it's been almost three years that we have gamed it up together online and earned many achivmients together.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
"There will always be someone better than you at something."
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
I believe the Forza franchise helped me become a gamer. I grew up watching NASCAR and love cars, so having a racing game with real cars was amazing! It was so neat to race cars seriously, and when you feel like trying something new, you drive the wrong way! It was a game that made me want to play xbox all the time. I have enjoyed all the Forza games and can't wait to pre-order Forza Horizon. *Edit* Damnit Deej! I wrote paragraphs and now I wont get to see my answers on the front page! I think they should be allowed because some of the question can have very big answers. [Edited on 09.18.2012 2:28 PM PDT]

Liberty Prime from Fallout 3. Why? A giant laser wielding anti communist robot, need I go on. I'll just tell him that they are communist zombies.
Posted by: DeeJ What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Needs moar Dragons bro. •
Posted by: DeeJ What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Not that I myself would go for such a game, but I think the industry is lacking games that offer people full immersion, whether they be racing, shooters or MMO.
Which do you think makes a better e-sport: DOTA, League of Legends, or Starcraft 2? Why?
I would have to say League of Legends because unlike Starcraft, it's a team sport, and it's easier to pick up compared to DOTA. People that watch it for the first time can understand what's going on, and yet there's rich, deep strategy behind what each team is doing.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
In middle school I met a couple new friends that had this Xbox contraption and a magical game called Halo. Many a weekends were spent in my middle school years at sleepover LAN parties that consisted of very little sleeping.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general?
Yes. I like what League of Legends does in its Tribunal system. Regular members vote to punish or pardon people that have been reported in-game for a multitude of reasons. Tribunal users whose punish and pardon votes align with the majority receive in game currency, so everyone wins.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
I'm no Haley Joel Osment, but I'd love to teach a group of people how paying it forward can mean a lot. •
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
The difficulty. I enjoy the eye-brow plucking frustration of older games. What was it and why?
The Metal Gear Solid series. All of the MGS games are so artful and groundbreaking. They really make you think outside of the box (or in it).
