I don't like how it can shoot out of the reticule...

Felt like a real gun in Halo 1. I don't like any of the sounds in H1:Anniversary and the 32 round variation made multiplayer a nightmare in H3 and H:Reach. And all Halo's have bloom on some of their weapons, as small and insignificant as it may be. The difference between them and Reach is that in all other Halos, it punished you for spamming the trigger. In Reach it punished you almost for just shooting altogether.
-
I actually really like it in Anniversary.
Whoa, really?! I knew the AR had a compass but I didn't know it was functional.
Posted by: KamelToad if you can't tango with a pair of hunters while beating them to death, you aren't a true fan.
I don't think I've done that and lived. Jk I've done it but losing my shield was always inevitable. It's possible to get them to kill each other but it takes a really long time.

One man's flaw is another man's strength. First off: All those stupid arrows on AotCR were unneeded if you carried the AR through the entire level. The first 4-5 bullets are the most accurate. After that you are not accomplishing a whole lot. Stealth elites are custom made to play to the strength of the AR. It's a short range match for any enemy but goldilox. Even on legendary. Ever try 'Belly of the Beast' on Legendary w/o the Sniper? Give it a try. It works well on the hordes of jackals and grunts, a PP or Needler will suffice to take down Goldilox and, if you can't tango with a pair of hunters while beating them to death, you aren't a true fan. I've learned to love the AR.
Posted by: SlashingArbiter and Hunters (when their backs are to you, obviously)
Doesn't really matter. Their armor takes damage, it's just a little more resistant.
Posted by: SlashingArbiter That's what shotguns are for
don't have a shotgun on me when i start the level though

That's what shotguns are for... The AR is also good against Elites (who have been stunned by a plasma pistol overcharge) and Hunters (when their backs are to you, obviously).
Posted by: path1k
Posted by: chickenlittle it's not good at killing things other than popcorn and grunts
takes over half a clip to kill a single combat form at close range!

Posted by: chickenlittle In every other game, it is called recoil.
So then what do you call the effect where, in Halo 2, the SMG reticle crawls upward as you fire it? Let's not replace specific words with vague words.
Posted by: MisguidedDrake4 The CE Assault Rifle has spread. Not bloom. I find the thing utterly useless for everything but popcorn.
The accuracy of automatic weapons in Halo 1 does, in fact, degrade if you hold the trigger. Granted, the system doesn't behave exactly like Reachs; bloom increases based on trigger-holding, not the actual shots being fired, so tapping your shots rather than holding the trigger does give you better accuracy for the same rate of fire. However, for all realistic intents and purposes, firing the AR in short, controlled bursts (or stacatto-shooting it) yields vastly superior accuracy.
Posted by: sdnomdE Given the bloom
Do not use that word in here ever again. That part of Reach was a travesty and never deserves to be mentioned ever again. In every other game, it is called recoil.
Posted by: the omega man117 This is due to the FOV not being properly synced to the scale of the HUD.
It's more just that the reticles are more for getting an intuitive sense for the weapon's feel than signifying exact spreads. Given the bloom, it wouldn't even make any sense to try and match with a non-animated reticle!
As far as I can tell, this does not happen in the PC version.
Here's a video that begs to differ. It seemed more like a sub-machine gun rather than a rifle.
