Half-Life 2 auto reload + explanation

So I've been playing Half-Life 2 recently and the auto reload in the game is very, very annoying. I've been googling around but I can't figure out how to do it as most ways don't work. [Edited on 08.12.2012 1:00 PM PDT]

 • I don't have a solution, but could you explain why this is an issue? Not being an -blam!-, I'm just curious.

 •
Posted by: Arbiter 739 Really? Are you sure about this? What I have to do to get it to auto-reload is to: Fire my SMG (don't reload) Fire off a bunch of other weapons, atleast three. Go back to my SMG after 20 seconds of doing the above. Bam, the SMG is always back at full ammo in the clip with the missing ammo subtracted from my total. Of course I only did that twice and it was for testing to see if "-reload" had worked.
Now that you explained how you got it, now I see it. Sorry bud, I don't how to fix and in my opinion isn't worth the effort. [Edited on 08.12.2012 1:41 PM PDT]

I remember that bugged me for a bit but I just sorta stopped thinking about it. Well I looked around and this page has some console commands about auto-reload ("/-reload"). See if that works, OP.
That might be referring to reloading when you reach the end of your clip.
I think it is, I tried exactly that command earlier and it didn't work. (I also don't know why it has a "/" infront of it.)
Its a shortcut argument for launching the game. Its for commands you want to execute every time the game starts. Although OP, I just launched Half Life 2. And my game remember how much ammo I had in that clip for each weapon even when I switch weapons. I'm thinking something is not right on your end, because I don't remember ever changing any setting that would affect that.
Really? Are you sure about this? Also, upon a second look that page is about the original Half-Life. Sorry, OP!

 •
Posted by: Arbiter 739 Half-Life 2 has an auto reload. When I shoot a weapon and don't reload it, shoot more stuff with other weapons, I'll come back to the original weapon and find that the game reloaded it fore me. Hence "Auto Reload". What I want to do is stop that from happening but I can't figure out how.
That sounds convenient, what's the problem?

There might be a way to force it to behave differently...but I dunno how. That would be moving into modding territory. I don't why that would annoy you though.

 • You mean after you die? If so stop mashing on the keyboard when you die that's what triggers is to reload
