If you use ad blocker to skip Youtube Ads you are screwing hard working developers out of their money.
People work hard to make videos for you to enjoy and if you really can't spare 15 seconds of your day then you need to make more time for your self.
Thieves.

In retrospect, I only really use it for a small select few websites now. These are sites I wouldn't want to give up, but the number of ads is just outrageous. Justification for the number of ads is seemingly just the want for more money, and that's why I use it. Of course, that seems a little selfish of me to say, because who am I to speak for the true intentions of these ads. Perhaps they just need a lot more ad space than other sites because they get a lot more traffic, and need to pay more to keep the site running. Still, I can't help but feel cheated on this specific site. I know it's all sorts of unfair for me to use ad block like this, but I just can't take the large amount of ads on the aforementioned site.
Posted by: omg a bannana Come at me bro. Maybe if they made their adds entertaining like Old Spice.
I was debating whether to say this, though I wanted to make it a reply to somebody. Anyway, this is the internet. If you advertise on the internet, please don't be a dumbass and pretend that your home owner insurance or terrible service no one uses will be interesting. Make it like, food or something. Everyone loves food.

I started using it when ads became overwhelming. I was fine with a banner here and a banner there. But pop ups? Ad videos stopping me from what I want to see? -blam!- that, you guys just screwed yourselves over with your pushy-ness.

All they did was watch a video.
Look at it this way. Rooster Teeth makes good videos. Funny videos, some are walkthroughs, others are just crazy. They are all free, however Rooster Teeth makes money off of the people who view the ad before their videos because companies pay Rooster Teeth to allow them to play ads before their videos. If everyone uses ad blocker, then Rooster Teeth makes less money, and if they make less money then they eventually have to charge for their videos or even go out of business. You are breaking the system, and in the end we all get screwed.
Yes, but it's not "stealing". They should really just find other ways to advertise without annoying the viewer. Rooster Teeth's avertisements are the worst for me because it's always a 30 second Verizon or Virgin Mobile ad for EVERY video. If they're gonna force me to watch a 30 second ad, atleast have some variety in them. Otherwise, make them 10 seconds at the most.
Yes it is stealing, the reason Youtube is free is BECAUSE of those ads, but people like you are pretty much breaching a contract.
People like me? I don't use AdBlocker. And even if I did use AdBlocker, I still wouldn't be stealing from them. I'm not taking anything from them, and the money they're not receiving because I blocked the ad isn't going to me. So nothing has actually been stolen. Oh well.
Posted by: catman6 Yep. I'm okay with some ads on the side. It's when the ads take up my time that I get upset.
Here is my opinion, if your video has a video ad, screw you. Those take time to load, play, then finally my video can start. The little banners I can close are fine. Things to the side of a video. Great. A commercial before or even during the video? No. Honestly, I wish youtube let you pay a fee for a premium account that makes it so you don't have to watch ads, but they still get their money. That is the best solution I think. Honestly, I hate using adblock, but those damn video ads are too much. Complete waste of time.

Good. If it means no ads then -blam!- the people who are getting skipped out on. -blam!- the. I mean really. I hate advertisements. [Edited on 08.08.2012 6:57 PM PDT]

Teh puma would like a response to this if he is being completely honest. You claim that the group is hypothetical, but it's kinda... obvious who you're talking about, Foman.
If you are a teenager or young adult who has never had to work for a living and who feels that the products and services you use should not only be free to you, but in fact should be devoid of advertisements, highly innovative, and occasionally shower you with free stuff too, then yes, I called a hypothetical group just like you "ignorant and self-entitled." Is that how you identify yourself? If not, I wasn't talking about you.
Nice, what teh puma assumes to be, dodge. Look, if you didn't get it before, that's understandable, but teh puma will put it out here, so it is hopefully more understandable where is he coming from. Your hypothetical group is strongly directed at the people in this thread that use ad block. Somewhere along the lines, you put in "ignorant, and self-entitled". Then you come back to the other person, and give him his little vacation to banadu for "flaming". What teh puma is saying is that while certainly a more mature, artistic even, if you wish to go that far, your response could have been taken as flaming. He isn't questioning whether or not he is in your description, he really doesn't care. However what he does care about is what could be, in his knowledge, considered flaming by someone who sent someone else to banadu for flaming. Again, it's just a simple question of are you sure you weren't flaming? Because in a way, it could be viewed as such. Teh puma, and many others have worded things in the same manner, however it's known it can still be used as an insult.
Calling a type of person "ignorant and self entitled" is not the same as calling the people you're addressing idiots.
Indirect insults are still insults
A lot of ppl have no idea what adblock is, or that it even exists for that matter. I still see a bunch of comments complaining about ads. We (the adblock users) are a minority (I guess).

I don't even pay attention to the ads, nor do I care about their products whatsoever.
Posted by: Swiftkillswitch3
Posted by: Hoggs Bison
Posted by: Swiftkillswitch3 I don't care. They earn money through others lacking said block, so they're still earning money. I go on Youtube for entertainment, not ads.
So just because everyone else is paying money for a product, you shouldn't pay money for it? The entertainment you want is supported by ads, among other things.
I'm one in a sea of a few thousand using ad-blocks. Ad-blocks serve as more than just to block ads on Youtube, but to also block pop-ups and such. I get on Youtube for music, I don't get on there for ads. Also, more people lack the ad-block than have it, and many people still get paid through their ads. They are not poor.
That is your reasoning, though: a product exists, others pay for that product, and the producer makes money on it*. Therefore, I should not have to pay for that product. I want the product, but I don't want to have to pay for it to get it. After all, the point is not to spend money, it's to get the product. *Side note-- hard numbers on Youtube have never been revealed by Google. What we know is that the site was bleeding money - roughly half a billion per year - when it was bought. Three years later, Eric Schmidt said they were working on ways to make the site profitable. Google's been investing pretty heavily in it, and analysts predict it's been paying off. But nobody really knows for sure.
-
I just hate ads on videos and I admit, I know I am kind of cheating the system. Now if there were a way to put ads via banners or other ways I would probably delete the ad block. But is it really a problem as of now? I assume the majority of internet users do not use ad block (I could be wrong)

If AdBlock were really taking up such a huge chunk of Google's profit, I doubt they'd still let it stay on the chrome store.

I can't hear you over the sound of my music that isn't being interrupted by ads.
