People who use ad blocker are thieves

If you use ad blocker to skip Youtube Ads you are screwing hard working developers out of their money. People work hard to make videos for you to enjoy and if you really can't spare 15 seconds of your day then you need to make more time for your self. Thieves.

 • I'll watch the ads that I'm interested in, but I'll block their tracking cookies. Because my computers memory is MY property, and I don't benefit from having a few gigabytes of memory (probably an exaggeration) used up for something that I don't want.

 • I turn it off when I care about them. If it's someone I don't care about, I prefer to leave it on. Life is soooo much better without things popping up that you aren't going to buy.

 •
Posted by: Wars0ngGlutch
Posted by: x Foman123 x
Posted by: GaIap You miss the point.
Actually YOU miss the point. A free video service, let's call it YouToob, makes nearly ALL of its money from advertising revenue. This revenue not only allows it to remain free for users, but also allows it to make a tidy profit, therefore allowing it to expand and improve its capabilities and return value to its owners. Now, let's imagine that there's a service that blocks those ads. Hypothetically, we'll call it AdBlob. AdBlob is used widely by a group of ignorant, self-entitled teenagers and young adults who call themselves Foodians. Foodians have never had to work for a living and feel that the products and services they use should not only be free to them, but in fact should be devoid of advertisements, highly innovative, and occasionally shower them with free stuff too. Finally, let's imagine that the entire population of a country, let's call it 'Murica, begins to feel the same way that the Foodians do, and they all install AdBlob. With AdBlob widely used by 'Muricans, advertisers stop advertising on YouToob. Why waste money on something that nobody will see? With advertisers no longer advertising on YouToob, YouToob faces the dilemma of either shutting down or enacting a subscription model, whereby you pay YouToob every month just to access their service. Either way, the Foodians and the 'Muricans lose, and their short-sighted, selfish actions to avoid viewing 5 seconds worth of advertisement and non-distracting, out-of-the-way sidebar ads have resulted in them losing the very thing they liked most -- a popular, innovative, reliable, and, most importantly, free-to-use online video streaming service. Do you get it yet?
5 seconds adds up when you watch multiple videos, and it REALLY gets annoying when its the same damn video every time, advertising something I will never buy. Ever.
Lol well then deal with it! If you are just sitting at home watching youtube videos all day, I think you can spare 5 seconds each video!

 • Ummm, no. I didn't ask to see an ad, if the developer put it there to annoy me, then I don't care.

 • See, I'm all for ads and such on pages on the sides, in the corners, across the top, etc., but I do NOT want them disrupting my video. What happens when I'm having a YouTube party with friends? We don't want to sit through advertisements the entire time as we try to watch videos that are shorter than the ad itself. IMO: Advertisements should be static images/links that are clearly shown as advertisements out of the way on a page. Tricking people into clicking ads through either making them LOOK like part of a page, making them mouseover activate, or making them interfere with my browsing is dishonest on the part of the webpage designer AND advertising company. When it gets to that point, they get what they deserve. I block flash ads, I skip youtube ads. However, I do not block static ads.

 • I don't use AdBlock, but I disagree with you. Youtube isn't inherently a business, so I don't owe it to any of them to waste my own time. In fact, if anything, I'm simply promoting them by watching their -blam!-.

If you don't want to see ads, you won't buy the thing theyre advertising, so you dont lose them money.
Yes but the people who actually made the video get paid for however many people see their ads. Example: Lets say 30,000,000 people watch a video. The person who made the video gets a certain amount of money for the number of those viewers who viewed the ad. If 15,000,000 of those viewers had ad blocker, then the person or company who made the video just lost a lot of money. It's wrong, and you shouldn't do it.
yeah, but I don't want to see the ad, so I don't want to pay them for seeing the ad. I'm not in the advertiser's target demographic anyway, and me seeing the ad is acutally losing the advertiser money because they paid for an ad to be shown to someone who definitely won't buy their product.
People get paid for ads based on how many views the ad gets, not how many people go on to buy the product.
You miss the point. ok so say there's advertiser A, who makes a contract with video person B, and puts ads on B's videos and pays B for how many views the ads get. Viewer C views B's video. If he has adblock, he does not see the ad, and A does not pay B. if he doesn't have adblock, he sees the ad, and A pays B. Suppose however that C wants adblock but doesn't have it, or the ad is designed to get around adblock. then C sees the ad, nad A pays B, but since C was a person who wanted or had adblock, they did not want to see the ad and will not buy A's product. A is only paying B for ad views because they have the expectation that a certain fraction of people who see the ad will buy the product A's ads are advertising. If and adblock having or desiring C sees the ad, they will definitely NOT buy the product, so A's money paid to B is wasted.
So basically what you just said, if someone has ad blocker that means they wont buy the product because they don't like ads? You have no idea what the ad could be about, how can you not like something when you don't know what it is?

 • I would probably stop using Ad-Block if YouTube offered a paid version to get rid of the ads. I would be more than willing to pay. Until I have options I'm gonna avoid the ads my own way.

 • Making people watch your stupid ad before, during, or after my that guy with the glasses review video or nice music video time doesn't make me want a product more, it makes me hate that product. You know what kinda ad's I'd rather see? the ones that are IN the show. not those sitting the pepsi can right in the middle of the -blam!- screen kind, I mean something that'll make you remember a product. It might not be what people in the PR department for pepsi want but wouldn't it be awesome to have seen Walter in breaking bad smash someones face in with a can of their soda? it's not the most friendly ad, but do you think you'd get it out of your head anytime soon?

 •
Posted by: Gottalovec4 I don't get how I'm stealing by using AdBlock when I'm not going to buy what ever the ad is selling anyway.
It's not what is being sold, it's the views of a said ad. The more views an ad gets, the more money they receive from YouTube, etc, etc.

 •
Posted by: x Foman123 x and their short-sighted, selfish actions to avoid viewing 5 seconds worth of advertisement
See, the problem with that is that most (if not all) of the ads are not just 5 seconds. Most of them are much longer and are unskippable. I'm sure most people wouldn't have AdBlocker if ads were just 5 seconds or so. But the fact is they're not.

 • In retrospect, I only really use it for a small select few websites now. These are sites I wouldn't want to give up, but the number of ads is just outrageous. Justification for the number of ads is seemingly just the want for more money, and that's why I use it. Of course, that seems a little selfish of me to say, because who am I to speak for the true intentions of these ads. Perhaps they just need a lot more ad space than other sites because they get a lot more traffic, and need to pay more to keep the site running. Still, I can't help but feel cheated on this specific site. I know it's all sorts of unfair for me to use ad block like this, but I just can't take the large amount of ads on the aforementioned site.
