If you use ad blocker to skip Youtube Ads you are screwing hard working developers out of their money.
People work hard to make videos for you to enjoy and if you really can't spare 15 seconds of your day then you need to make more time for your self.
Thieves.

I am allowed to run whatever software and software extensions I want on my browser. and service developers are allowed to develop their service how they wish. For example. on Hulu the videos wont load if the adds don't get played. So I disabled adblocker for hulu. Its up to the service to implement something like this. Otherwise I will be adblocking them by default. [Edited on 08.09.2012 1:34 AM PDT]
Posted by: thebig100 They already have enough money as it is,why would I waste few seconds of my life giving capitalist pigs more money?
Man, this is misguided and totally wrong. Your point is more valid when looking to larger AAA corporations, I suppose. But lets think about smaller developers and individuals. They make money from this, some do as a living. Look away from you preconceived notion that it only benefits large companies.
Posted by: darthnilhilus97 If they care about their fans they wouldn't care about the money.
Woah back up. It should be: If fans care about creators, they wouldn't block the ads. Your comment there might be the dumbest, if not most infuriating thing I've read. Most people who make content are hardly making much money anyway and putting in a lot of hard work. Do you complain when there are commercials on TV? How about radio? Does having an ad for free content really bother you that much? Maybe they wouldn't care about money, but the reality is they need it to live and produce the free content you burn through without a second thought. Go -blam!- yourself.
-
Implying I give two -blam!-s.
-
Saw a 10 minute ad once. I noped the -blam!- out of it.
-
As a developer and content creator, it makes me sad when people use ad blockers, its a lot of my income. Think of it this way, if you enjoy playing a free game, or watching a free video, whats the big deal if its going to help the creator make more or better content by helping him get money?
-
I still don't care if you think i'm a thieve, OP. I'll still use it, as long as they have 30 second adds that are unskippable on YouTube? I will ALWAYS use Adblock. DEAL WITH IT.
-
That's comparable then to the argument that people who pirate music are thieves. If everyone did it, the artist would be broke. I do it all the time, but many don't. Artist makes money, i dont pay anything. Win-win from my point of view. Unless it's a concert or something. Then I'll pay. But a digital copy? No.
-
OP by your logic you are stealing every time you simply listen to a song on youtube or really anything.

I don't care, I hate advertisements and by my own freedom and right I'm using an advertisement blocker. Call me however you want, I pity you.

Time is money. So, they're stealing money from me as well. AdBlock Plus FTW.
-
Only a block would lack adblocker. Therefore OP is a block head.
-
If it gets to be a problem, then I will stop using adblock. Until then, people are still making money and nothing is going out of business or becoming a "premium service"

I doubt just anyone can make upwards of $70k by just having one popular video. At least--not as far as a salary is concerned.
I think that the only people who make a large amount of money are usually the ones who are the top subscribed on the website.....and people would make the argument that some of them trick people into clicking on their videos with misleading titles, fake thumbnails, ect. I don't use adblocker and probably won't.......but man I'm going to lose it if I see one more ad for some channel in Spanish. I DON'T KNOW SPANISH! [Edited on 08.08.2012 10:29 PM PDT]

YouTube did not initially have advertisements, and I'd bet my shoe it gains dramatically more ad revenue that it needs to operate. Google's just getting it's money's worth of YouTube, doing what is does best, taking a service and making it into a cash machine. YouTube thrived before it had mass-advertising, and numerous large sites today survive (ie: Wikipedia) without ad revenue. Theft is the unlawful seizure of property, thus ignoring something is in no way theft. There are also no laws that mandate people should watch advertisements.
-
it wasnt always like this... i think they are stealing MY time. i come on youtube to watch videos, not adds.
-
You can't make a living off of youtube... /no guilt whatsoever

No I cannot spare 15 seconds of my day. I want to watch the video not an ad that isn't useful to me.
