Before watching TDKR, I suggest this (Also counts if you saw it)

*If you saw it and understood everything you are fine, if you don't....* _________________________________ Many people try to understand the movie without reading some comics or the back-stories about the characters. So: 1st: Read all movie characters background on the internet. 2nd: Read some comics related like Bane breaking Batman's back. 3rd: Go watch the movie again; If you haven't seen it yet. This might help ____________________________ EDIT: In case you DO NOT understand the movie: Many people complain on not fully understanding the movie with so many "plot-holes". But in fact, I did some reading and find out that the movie is heavily based (by that I mean, mostly all characters reactions) on the comics. But you don't really need to read the comics to understand it, you just need to read the characters bio, how they end the way they are now. [Edited on 08.08.2012 12:06 PM PDT]

 • The movie made perfect sense to me. Then again I am well versed on a decent portion of Batman lore.

 •
Posted by: darthnazgul The comics are not necessary. The previous films? Sure but the Nolan films are their own universe. And to be honest that is the way it should be. Many plot holes are easily explained when you think about them, unlike some others in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
Yeah, it's Nolan's own universe and people should know that, but as I stated before, other doesn't seem to understand so maybe giving them more to understand the story would open their eyes.

 •
Posted by: Shifty Undertow I didn't notice any plot holes. What I noticed was the terrible pacing of the movie and how Joseph Grodon-Levitt was more of a focal point than Christian Bale was. And to debunk the comic theory there is one glaring flaw as to why it isn't like the comics. Bane doesn't use venom. Plain and simple.
Yes, I know, but as I said, some people are complaining on why X character is like that, or who is Y character and why he/she does that. I also stated and agreed that in order to understand the movie, you need to see the previews one Nolan did.

 •
Posted by: xMaJoR cRaBsx Also the wheels on the bat motorcycle were stupid.
Really? I thought the concept of strafing wheels was pretty cool. Why do we need to read the comics, anyways? Last I checked Nolan's interpretation of batman does not necessarily correlate with them. Just like how in the older batman movies Bane was completely different from the comics. The trilogy can be watched and understood as a stand alone. [Edited on 08.07.2012 11:09 PM PDT]

 • all the backstory you need is in the last two films. if watching a batman film is a chore for someone, then they probably shouldn't watch batman films.

 • Or you could, you know, pay attention to the movie? I mean, maybe watching the first movie in Nolan's trilogy would reduce the whole "Who's Rahs Al Gul?" thing, but yeah, its not that hard to understand.

 • The thing that bothered me most about the movie was the missles. They were smart enough to go around corners instead of turning with their target and hitting the building. But heaven forbid another vehicle gets in the way and it gets all screwy. Also the wheels on the bat motorcycle were stupid. Y cant bruce wayne invest in somthing that can disguise his voice? Instead he has to resort to making retarded growling noises.

 •
Posted by: MickelPickel With no prior knowledge of Bane, Selina Kyle, or Talia al Ghul, I was able to understand every aspect of the movie. It really wasn't hard to follow; the jerkiness was very Inception-esque and we have to take into account the extra hour cut from the movie. Nolan was going to pull a Peter Jackson on us, but he shortened the movie, thus having to cut parts that would have removed the jerkiness and plot holes.
It would have been a Peter Jackson if Nolan included Bane Orgin story in TDKR. Honestly I hope Bane Orgin story is included in dvd/blu ray release

 • I don't think you need to read the comics for the movie, but being a Batfan I enjoyed recognizing themes and motifs from the comics in it. Particularly Dark Knight Returns, it shares a tonne in common with that one.

 • Wrong. The Dark Knight Rises, while alluding to comic book characters, is independent and does not require anything but it's own canon to understand. Christopher Nolan is not a generic film maker. He will make you think, and will not explain everything. The LACK of information, in several cases, is what makes his films so amazing.
