Groups should be able to have a status.
Private - Mods cannot search their forums and membership requires approval.
Public - Mods can view forums, and membership is free.
Away - Forums have been inactive for nearly two months
Fully Inactive - Group has been inactive for four months
After two more months, it gets deleted.
Posted by: DJ Yella
Posted by: Kickimanjaro What's this about mods searching forums?
Super users search forums to make sure everyone's doing what they're told.
There aren't a lot of Superusers, and they definitely aren't the Forum Ninjas. There is never going to be an option that will keep Superusers from doing looking at what they want on the site.

When I entered this thread, I thought we were going to discuss about how groups could literally have a "Status" posted on their front page, similar to facebook or twitter. Reminds me back in the previous version of bungie.net where private groups had a "most popular thread" feature where the name of the thread appeared on the group's homepage, even if it was private. As for this thread though, I think some of those could work such as "away", "active" etc. I think the idea would be to help other users finding group that suite their desires when they spend time here. Although, I don't think groups should be deleted after X amount of inactivity. If you're referring to "mods" as "bungie.net administrators" in your OP, then they should have full access to all groups (as they already do because they're administrators). If you're talking about the public "forum ninjas", they don't have moderating powers in private groups unless they're given them by group administrators. When you create a group, you agree to follow the rules and regulations of the entire website. If you have to "hide" your group from the moderators/admins, then there is something fishy going on. If you want it so private, don't have it on bungie.net, go somewhere else and just invite your friends with you. [Edited on 08.05.2012 3:08 PM PDT]

I want a group with a pretzel theme.
-
or you could not worry about it. most of the groups are just like the flood anyway. you could go there instead.

You have no rights here, play nice.

What are you trying to hide? Hmmmmm?
Posted by: DJ Yella Groups should be able to have a status. Private - Mods cannot search their forums and membership requires approval. Public - Mods can view forums, and membership is free.
What people do in Private Groups is of no concern to Mods unless they themselves are appointed Moderators in that group. They control the main forums, and do nothing with Private Groups.
Away - Forums have been inactive for nearly two months
Why would they have a status of a group have a criterion so imprecise as "nearly" two months?
After two more months, it gets deleted.
Why? That's stupid.

Superusers can go into any group they want anyway. And I'm not seeing a point in deleting groups for inactivity, especially at a time of such inactivity in general.
Posted by: DJ Yella ^ Because it's a waist of space.
Posted by: SPRTN One One 7 No
Yes.
It's not like there's a shortage of space is there? What's that Achronos...what?! There isn't. Yeah that's what I thought.
Posted by: SPRTN One One 7 No
Yes.
How is it a "waste of space"?
There's a group limit for people. They could be in other groups.
If this is an issue for them, can't they just leave the group? If you're referring to the issue of people becoming stuck in the group queue; I agree there should be a way for people to leave the queue and we can hope the Webteam will fix this issue when the site gets updated. But I don't think deleting the group is the answer.

Why should groups be deleted if inactive?
