Sgt. Johnson survived Halo 3. There is only one question:
How?

He'd have gotten to the ship, stayed on John's half and get killed by decompression as soon as they made it to space.

If he were to have survived, I'd imagine he'd been gravely injured and you'd have to evacuate him to the Forward Unto Dawn. But if this happened, Bungie might have killed off Arbiter instead.

On a serious note (Spoilers ahead), Apparently ONI can recover the remains of 343 Spark from the Ark and bring it back to life. Who's to say they won't bring Johnson back to life.
