It takes forever to level up now, I know iron daggers were 'overpowered' but now it is ridiculous...
Any ideas on how to speed up the process?

Try mining Coal at the mining guild and Iron from Varrock, then smelt them together in Al-Karad... Wait, no, that's the wrong game, how silly of me to confuse the two of them so easily, Skyrim would never stoop to boring grinding to get a menial crafting skill up...

The level up system for Smithing is based on the quality/price of the item now, so low level items won't get you far.
-
Also...
player.advskill Smithing 100000000
That is the fastest way to master a skill and not -blam!- up your level ups and perks.

Oghma Infinium.

Power gaming a singleplayer title is always a terrible idea.

Transmute Ore + Prowlers Profit + Smithing = Your best friend Transmute ore lets you change iron ore to silver ore to gold ore. Then smelt your ore and get gold ingots. Prowlers Profit lets you get tons of gems in loot, but it is difficult to obtain, if not, just use gems you find anyway, despite them being harder to find. Then smith your gold ingots and gems into jewelry, since leveling is based off of value, jewelry will net you a lot of experience because of it's value. /Thread
Posted by: SRQ baller24 dwarven bows as you can get so many freaking ingots from one dwemer ruin. Glass bows also work as the material is pretty easy to come by.
He would be better off just making jewelry since iron is abundant. He can easily just transmute it into gold.

I never downloaded any patches for Skyrim, so I could get away with the orig Smithing. Unfortunately they finally got me when I had to be online to use Dawnguard.
Posted by: King Dutchy
Posted by: TheRogueAngel I heard it's by value now, so jewelry?
If it's by value now, they should do the same for enchanting.
You could easily just enchant jewelry. For the most part making it so that it is by value does nothing since you can easily transmute iron into gold.

WOW I've not played it in a while... That seriously sucks, why'd they do that? So what, people did Iron Dagger training. And? It's not affecting anyone else, I mean the game is a 1-Player game!

That is because the system was broken. It wasn't just the daggers it was the sheer amount of damage you can get due to smithing. That along with enchanting and potions you could deal such an absurd amount of damage you would never die.

It's because of the iron daggers. Try crafting the most expensive things you can, because if I remember right, skill increases are now tied to the worth of the item.
