Playing the Dark Brotherhood as an Imperial Soldier

Big disappointment for roleplayers like me as imperial soldiers. I guess it will just have to become Brutus? et tu brute? Discuss this and forced things you don't like in skyrim. [Edited on 07.11.2012 8:12 AM PDT]

 • Skyrim is an impressive world, but there is obviously a significant problem in that all of the quests are more or less on a straight line down, and don't go across or affect any other quests. It's just that one of these days I wish people would stop treating my character like -blam!- when he's Thane of half the cities, The Harbinger and Head Wizard.

 • Well you don't have to kill him. You just won't complete the quest line.

 •
Posted by: The_Harbinger I just want to kill people, not the emperor. Dark brotherhood was always cool but unless I am a stormcloak I feel uncomfortable doing the qeustline.
I haven't done a single Dark Brotherhood quest and I kill people all the time. Especially hunters.

 • Then That is the choice you have to make are you more loyal to the Dark Brotherhood or are you loyal to the Dirty Empire.I understand your issue. Or think of it like this. This isnt the same Empire you were loyal to before. The Septem bloodline is dead.

I freaking love the DB. They are the best faction, however I am also a supporter of the empire, so all this time that I have played the elder scrolls as assassins, now all the sudden I can't enjoy it because if I wish to join them, I will eventually have to kill the emperor.
Just don't do the final quest then.
This. Or you can do it, and perform the Emperor's final wish, which is to kill the guy who set up the contract (Amaund Motierre). The thing that bothers me about Skyrim is that nothing seems to connect. I'll walk into the Ragged Flagon after becoming Guild Master and the barman will still say that I'm the new guy. [Edited on 07.11.2012 9:20 AM PDT]

 • *Is a stormcloak, destroys dark brotherhood anyway* One thing that bothers me is that after the Stormcloaks have stormed solitude and driven the empire from skyrim, the Pentius Oculatus outpost is still in Dragon Bridge, and as far as I know, neither can be killed.

 •
Posted by: P0150NP13R0P4WN Why does it matter which civil faction you choose?
This is true. I believe only a united empire can face the Aldmeri Dominion, but also that the Meade line is destined to end.

 •
Posted by: xXSniper420Xx
Posted by: SRQ baller24 Or, you could have killed Astrid and started a quest to destroy the dark brotherhood instead of complaining.
You would still have to kill the old lady running the orphanage. That doesn't sound like something any respectable soldier of the Empire would do.
And how is it not realistic roleplaying if a child asks you to kill someone and you refuse?

 •
Posted by: JamieSparkes
Posted by: The_Harbinger
Posted by: Aang the Avatar People -blam!- so much about "Lack of choices" in Skyrim when really there's so much you can do to role-play. First of all, you aren't forced to join the Dark Brotherhood. If you wanted to be a loyal imperial soldier, why would you join? The steps to join are pretty complex so it's not like you can accidently join them. And if you did, you can kill all the members anyways. You should have killed Astrid when you met her and a mission will start where you must kill all the Dark Brotherhood members.
I just want to kill people, not the emperor. Dark brotherhood was always cool but unless I am a stormcloak I feel uncomfortable doing the qeustline.
Well then. Your character wouldn't do it. So don't do it. That's what happens if you roleplay Skyrim. There are some choices that you have to make that go against the game. Nothing wrong with that.
"Do it or don't do it" aren't legitimate choices to say your game has "a lot of options"
