Halo 3, most internet connection-dependent shooter of all time? Probz.

The host and the dead. One player has every bullet register with smooth and easy aim assist. Another has bullets refunded while player models warp as their client xbox is shafted. Wish I lived in California. Playing offhost on the east coast against lagging west coast players was torture. Getting shot through walls, shooting enemies in the head spraying blood with no kill, getting my BR bullets refunded, having enemies melee lunge me from 15 feet, shooting an enemy directly with a tank 3 times with no kill, sticking banshees only to have lag cancel it out. Then the icing on the cake: Having the enemy host tea bag your body (or the spot they see your body since it is out of sync and laggy) talking -blam!- when you 4 shotted them perfectly DESPITE the teleporting, and not dropping their shields. As much as I hate the new Call of Duties, as skill-less as their player base is, atleast you have a fair shot at winning offhost, even with lag the best team wins most of the time. Can't say that about Halo 3. Laggiest game of all time. (My Crunk N DaTrunk GT is blacklisted due to years of trolling all the scrubs here that denied lag existed. It's fileshare has some rather legendary moments of Halo 3 lag. That Gamertag also got Host-banned when I was in my first month of playing, got to level 46/47/48 or something in doubles when Bungie put me against Australlian Hosts in back to back games. Never again Bungie. Connection > Skill in Halo 3. I'm glad Microsoft can let 343 take the disgraced Halo name, drag it through the mud as noob-games like Black Ops outsell Halo 4, before it eventually reaches critical suck-mass and collapses into a black hole of garbage and destroys earth.

 •
Posted by: mczombi I would say the more recent AVP game. I mean have any of you tried to shoot a lagging alien? One second it is 20 meters in front of you then the next it is behind you raping you with its tail.
LOL I play that game when I get reallyyyy bored :D But ya, lag makes all games bad.

 •
Posted by: batchynator
Posted by: Frasier Crane No one cares, especially someone from Australia.
Although I agree, that lag is a major factor of who wins in halo 3. I managed to get to level 49 by searching alone in team slayer. (yellow bar 9/10 games) with very few losses. You just have to adapt, avoid close quarters as often as possible because you will always lose. And always veto regular slayer with AR starts. Some guns are less affected by lag, like the needler, BR and carbine. I would hate to imagine how effortless it is to get to 50 when you live in america. It must be a walk in the park... But yeah, I get yellow bar pretty much every game, there isn't much you can do about it especially since halo 3 doesn't have quite as many players as it once did. If you want green bar, play in social slayer. I can't really feel your pain though if you are mad over national latency, most games I play is USA or UK host and I'm in australia.
Are you being serious? If you live in eastern Europe or further, you'll pull host over an American the vast majority of the time. Australian complaining about host? No. [Edited on 07.12.2012 4:19 PM PDT]

 • DV, I feel your pain. One day, I was driving around in a chopper, on sandtrap, and I see about 4 enemies in the open. Too good a chance to pass up, right? So I go after them, they are all about lined up, none of them see me, I boost and hit every one of them. Does nothing. I get out unwillingly and get hit by my own chopper, which kills me just fine.

 • All I'm saying is Halo 3 was the most unfair online game I have ever played. I live in NC playing on a college ISP that is crazy good. Played lag free for the first couple weeks, LOVED the game. Smooth, no lag. I think it was new xbox syndrome, new xboxes are granted host for the first couple online sessions, Bungie blacklisted the guy that posted that evidence. Right as I started leveling up easily in doubles all the way to the 40s, started lagging. Eventually realized I was host banned, if anyone joined my custom match at anytime it would transfer them host. Even people with statistically worse ISPs. Bungie keeps the networking/host BS under wraps. Fortunately though theatre mode shows the client xbox view so I have absolutely absurd clips that back me up when I say Halo 3 was the most connection-based game on xbox live. Years later I am still venting, because there are NO good console shooters to play now. COD4 and World at War are hacked, Halo 2 not online, Reach is bloom and aim assist, and Halo 3 has told me that no matter what I do on my end I am given a lag-induced penalty where 25-30% of my bullets will not register and I will play 1 second behind everyone else. Never forget the Lag Apocalypse. This is the way the Xbox Live world ends. H3. Im gonna play Starcraft, SUCK IT

I'm sure it's easier than being stuck on a suck connection all the time, but you're often still playing against good players and getting your butt handed to you.

 • There are different types of lag. You can be skippy, or hard to hit, that is usually caused by high packet-loss, usually wireless connections. There is latency, which you usually get when you are playing on an international host. Or just good old regular lag when the timer stops and you see players running in to walls.

 • It is really weird but I seem to take a lot more bullets when I'm not host than when I am... I get 4 shot all the time on my host but sometimes I will eat a lot of bullets when I'm not. Its a bit strange...
