Why is Halo MM so depressing

What good has it done? What happiness has it brought? All it does is spread negative feelings and atmosphere. Look at this forum for example. Constant arguments and complaining. 'Your KD is low your bad' 'Iron boosters in arena are bad kids' 'whoever doesn't have more than a 50% W/L ratio in MLG is bad'. Why do people feel so compelled to argue about such trivial stuff? Same with Halo 3, just people arguing about true skill and 50s constantly. I'll sum up the threads you find in Halo 3 and Reach forums Reach I've been banned Reach sucks KD and WL Bad kids MLG Halo 3 Team Slayer boosters 50s Derankers Lol49 bad kids This player is better than all of you Seriously, why is there no happy atmosphere around this game and this forum? It's like as soon as you enter this forum or even a matchmaking game ts full of hostility and deadly seriousness, like your being pressured to accept this game as a matter of life and death. So if you are getting depressed from Halo MM, why not take a break for a while? [Edited on 06.28.2012 2:47 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Sgt Commando Is this really what yall think when you go into matchmaking? Do you really think everyone is an over obsessed, complaining loser that ruins the game? If you really payed attention, then Halo community hasnt changed much AT ALL and neither have the forums. There was no "Golden Age" in the Halo community when everyone said "Good game man", and nor has the community gone down in quality. Its almost completely identical as Halo 2's, and if you simply cant handle it then I suggest playing a different game. And I honestly cant see the things people hate oh so very much about Halo Reach. I pop in the disc and play the game. When I die, I die. When I win, I win. Nothing more to it. Just like every game. If you die because someone used a certain tactic thats apparently cheap then its entirely your fault (assuming it wasnt actual cheating). As for lag, that just something you have to deal with. No amount of "Fix it!" is going to help. In my eyes, most of the people here seem to be more focused on critiquing the game then playing it, or have a habit of finding something to blame when they encounter some sort of grief.
Posted by: Water Beetle I'll sum up the threads you find in Halo 3 and Reach forums Reach I've been banned Reach sucks KD and WL Bad kids MLG
Yea- no. I just looked on the front page. The only one of those examples I commonly see are is the "I've been banned" one. A majority of the threads are questions. Thats when people go in and post trash or derail the thread.
Posted by: Water Beetle It's like as soon as you enter this forum or even a matchmaking game ts full of hostility and deadly seriousness, like your being pressured to accept this game as a matter of life and death.
Matchmaking is really nothing like that. At least not in the gametypes Ive played. Coming from somebody who actively uses his mic in game chat, I can say from experience, that matchmaking is not the depressing heap of crap you claim it to be. People are friendly when you dont show immediate judgement towards them. Assuming youre in game chat and use a mic, I guarantee you, the first thing you do when you meet a "squeaker", a group of loud people, etc, your first reaction would be *mute* or "Shut the -blam!- up you insert insult here." You know, instead of showing some tolerance and trying to start a conversation or talk. As for the forums, yes, you will get almost nothing but insults or the forum favorite, "lol", here. Although, you should be able to look past them and ignore them. A lot of them admittedly said they dont take this forum seriously anymore and just troll it.
I am hardly ever in gamechat but the few times I have it's always been full of dicks. I would never say shut the -blam!- up to someone but if someone has an annoying voice I would just mute them

 •
Posted by: Water Beetle
Posted by: Chief Bigwig
Posted by: Water Beetle Sir, you aren't very good at fixing things
Your title is misleading. It appears the discussion will be about MM, but your OP is about cynicism in the forums. I clicked on your thread anticipating a serious discussion about Halo. Instead I get a meta-complaint thread. This is ironic, because your OP pleads for more mature discourse. Reach MM is depressing. So many herp kids and derp game mechanics. One who has been with Halo from the beginning can become saddened by what Halo has become.
I was trying to make a connection between cynicism and Halo MM itself, since it seems to be the source of it. You don't see a lot of arguments and insults and aggressiveness associated with campaign discussion or anything else.
He makes a good point with that. But, it is the internet, and people can flame as the are safe behind their PC Screen. Bungie Forumns, and im pretty sure every other forum has the same problem. You get some really good threads, you ger some pointless threads. Ignore the pointless ones, and post in the good ones. Problem solved. Every time you post in a pointless thread and comment how bad it is, you bump it back to the top of the forum list. = FAIL. Which is pretty much what I have done here, damm. •
Posted by: xxabusivetacoxx stay out of the forums, the only people that go here care too much (apart from a few). Just play the game OR log onto the forums before people complain too much, i.e. first month or so of the game. I love the game, just get on here a bit when I'm bored
Actually, most people on the forums would rather have you believe they 'stopped playing Reach a long time ago' as opposed to 'caring too much'. Though, wouldn't coming to a forum for a game you no longer play .... be caring too much?

It SHOULDN'T be too much to expect if people were decent and civilised enough.
And a grand justification it is! The internet grants people absolute anonymity and as such the ability for people to state their true opinions, regardless of how crass it may seem to other people. I would rather be allowed to argue with people I strongly disagree with than have those people censored because what they say "hurts my feelings".
