Save a Forum Thread as a File Idea

Most of us know about saving a thread to your profile, that way you can go back to it without actually looking for it in the forums. I was wondering, would it be possible to have a "Save" link that enables you to save the entire thread as a downloadable text or even html file? What do you think of this possible new feature? • I know I would use it. I have a ton of threads saved for Breaking-in articles.

 • If we had the option to grab topic data (without scrapping) in some format (eg. JSON, XML/RSS), creating a program to fetch and display it (eg. XSLT) would be trivial.

 • It would be an interesting idea, but I could only see it being useful for "dead" threads, as hot topics are ever-expanding, and therefore would require constant saving.

 •
Posted by: Wikked Navajoe Sounds like it would take up a lot of space.
Your average page is less than 500kB, so it depends on the size of the thread. Anyway, it'd be the user's choice, so it wouldn't matter. I say this would be a cool feature but not really a necessary addition.
Posted by: THE SALTY CHIP
Posted by: Wikked Navajoe Sounds like it would take up a lot of space.
I remember hearing a while ago that the entire data for this forum could fit on a single average flash drive, so I don't think one thread would take up much space.
The data? Perhaps. The pages themselves? Absolutely not. [Edited on 06.19.2012 1:07 PM PDT]

 • Could be useful for if a forum gets removed like the Optimatch I suppose, otherwise I don't see much use for this.

 •
Posted by: Lobster Fish 2 Why would this feature be necessary?
Eh. It might be more beneficial to the mods. But as for me. I like to archive The News and sometimes even Deej's threads. I just think it would be a kewl feature. [Edited on 06.19.2012 12:28 PM PDT]
