Dr. Dre, one of the most talented musicians ever, is barely known. I trust that you all know him. If you don't, you should jump into a whole.
Now, back to my point.
Why are people like this?
-
Jump into a whole?
-
Dre's are incredibly over priced.
-
Don't care about Dre. However, the expense and relative -blam!-ness of Beats coupled with the fact that stupid people are buying them in droves makes me hate humanity ever more.
-
because they are popular headphones?
-
Posted by: DJ Yella Dr. Dre, one of the most talented musicians ever
I wouldn't go that far.
-
Posted by: DJ Yella If you don't, you should jump into a whole.
A whole what? Why does one need to know the namesake of a product to enjoy the product itself? Can a non-golfer enjoy an Arnold Palmer? Can a non-history buff enjoy a Sam Adams beer? This is just stupid. And there are countless artists exponentially more talented than Dre with only a fraction of his popularity. This is one of the most senseless threads I've seen in a while.

I don't know him, however most people are stupid and will buy anything. People are materialistic and want what's "cool." Then they buy it. Then they convince themselves they like it so they look cool. Then they become idiots.
-
Consumer Culture/Cultural Capital/Branding Pick a reason, they all work.
-
It's not that he's barely known... it's that he's barely known to the current generation. They don't count for anything, as it seems they are the least intelligent (study has been done on maturity, implying that those of us in our 20's are not maturing at all)
-
People hear that they should try Dre Beats because they're good, chances are they've never used any super high quality headphones otherwise so they're blown away by the sound quality, and tell their friends. Repeat. There are some just as good/better for much less, but your average person isn't going to look into headphones too much.
-
They don't buy the beats to represent Dr.Dre. They do it because it's a fad. In all actuality, it's not bad at all. Their just mainstream and overhyped, so people perceive it as trash. Same with Call of Duty, for example. Or Apple products. Their very good, but people who want to be unique take anything mainstream in as garbage.
-
People buy Beats, but don't notice that they can get better quality headphones for a fraction of the price...
Posted by: AttilaTheNvn Dre Beats suck. So hard. So many wannabe rappers at my campus all bought crappy earbuds because they were sure they were the best sounding things ever (Earbuds, goddamnit. EARBUDS... FOR "GOOD" SOUND!! *facepalm*) And so many of them in my recording classes bought laptops with "Dre Beats" because they thought it must mean their crappy laptop speakers would "sound better." -blam!- stupid people. They're even more overrated/overhyped than Bose, and at least they have earbuds that actually sound good. -_-
Hardly "wannabe rappers." People aren't buying Dre Beats for the sound quality, they buy them because of how they look. It wouldn't be a college if it didn't have people coming back from the gym in sweatpants with the college hoodie and cap on listening to Beats. Not many people are even getting the earbuds. Whenever I see used Beats for sale, they're the earbuds because people assumed they would be high quality. Not everyone is an audiophile like yourself. But that's just a little too reasonable on my part, since the only sensible thing to do here is to claim everyone who buys a product I don't like is a wannabe rapper dumbass while chuckling to myself on the internet. Ladies, they pay homage, but haters say Dre fell off. How, -blam!-? His last album was The Chronic.
-
I have Beats. They're ok. Not too amazed at the quality to price ratio.

-
Dr. Dre is unknown? Where do you live?

Some of The Chronic was good but other than that I'm not a fan of him. NWA was -blam!- without Ice Cube and atleast Dre was smart enough to leave after Eazy E and Jerry Heller started to -blam!- them all over.

People buy KFC, but barely know Colonel Sanders as well.

Great marketing/brand image. [Edited on 06.10.2012 11:34 PM PDT]
