God: A Reassuring Fable (Carl Sagan)
After some positive responses from my previous threads (as well as tons of Sagan love), I've decided to post yet another link to a famous someone-or-other.
This time it happens to be the late, great Carl Sagan, famous Cosmologist and science educator. (1934-1996)

I'm a pretty spiritual guy and am not Atheist, and this doesn't bother me one bit because I have principle, character and believe in freedoms strongly. If the OP said, "SATAN IS THE ONLY TRUE GOD!" it wouldn't bother me one bit.

And that video seems to convey the notion that religion is a destructive lie. Now I'm an atheist, don't get me wrong here. However I respect religion and people who believe in what they wish. These methods of "convincing" people there's no deity just doesn't work. Because like most atheists (or at least me), you have to come to this conclusion yourself.

Anyone that is insulted by this thread is rather pathetic. I will agree that it could be considered against the rules but it is most certainly not offensive, or at least it should not be. If someone made a thread discussing why they believe in a God and why they think one exists, would I be offended? Absolutely not. For some reason people get all defensive when people talk about religion not under a good light. Fantastic quote that describes many in this thread: [quote]Religion... has certain ideas at the heart of it which we call sacred or holy or whatever... If someone votes for a party that you don't agree with, you're free to argue about it as much as you like; everybody will have an argument but nobody feels aggrieved by it. Is there every a way to discuss atheism without offending people of faith? I have yet to encounter a situation where I have avoided that.

I would hope that no one would be offended at the personal opinions of others. I can understand beign offended at bashing, but if simply presenting an alternative view counts as offense, then it should not.
