A new ban idea

What if, instead of being banned by all forums when banned, you were only banned off the forum you were reported/caught on? After two times being banned, you would loose all forum privileges. What do you all think?

  • It defeats the purpose of the ban.

  • Nah I think the current method is better.

  • I dont see the benefit OP. A ban is a punishment. Letting the offender post in other forums is like only half a punishment.

  •
Posted by: DJ Yella People don't get this! If the victim gets banned on another forum after his previous ban, he gets banned off all forums.
Well there's your problem... They aren't "victims"; the closest word I can think of to better describe them is "criminal" (but, like "victim", "criminal" is a rather extreme word). As for your idea, I feel like it misses the the point of bans. If a moderator didn't want to ban a user from all of the public forums, they can send them a warning. Banning them from a single forum on Bungie.net would merely be an annoyance; banning the user from all of the public forums serves a function to keep him out and penalize him; banning a user from a single forum can be taken very indifferently by the user, depending on the user. Think of it this way. When a child has a tendency to misbehave in the theaters, you never say "you can't come to this theater again, but you can go to the other ones". You either warn the kid "don't do that" or "there will be consequences", or you can give the kid a penalty such as "I won't take you to the theaters for three months", or you can just say "I'm never taking you to a theater again".

  • This only creates more work for the moderators, and gives users with ill intent more opportunities to be idiotic.

  • Don't break the rules. Problem solved.

  • The idea to what deems being ban worthy and its punishment should be as clear cut as possible. This idea would seem to cause even more discrepancy as to if a punishment suits the need of the violation. This is because you'd have to change the punishment system; for example: What requirements must be made if one is to be publicly banned immediately rather than over a single forum ban? These scenarios would give more permutations as to what the punishment is which in turn would increase disagreement between members and moderators. [Edited on 05.08.2012 8:33 PM PDT]

  • I got a better idea....let's leave the enforcing ideas to the Enforcers.

  •
Posted by: DJ Yella If the victim gets banned on another forum after his previous ban, he gets banned off all forums.
That's called a warning. With this system you're still giving users that "grey area" to play with. A ban is a ban, don't play with the electric fence at all, just avoid it. "Oh hey, I just got banned in the Flood, time to move to the Reach forum." Giving a warning is a fair substitute to tell a user "cool it" before something serious happens. I'm curious, why change it? The current banning system that includes warnings works great.
Posted by: DJ Yella
Posted by: spawn031 By that logic, I could get pulled over for speeding, get fined a ticket and shouldn't be allowed to speed on that specific road I was pulled over on. But driving around on anything else speeding is perfectly fine. That's your argument. If you're banned, you broke some rule of the public forums. Allowing a "grey area" isn't going to reduce the problem. In those instances, the moderators would just have to play "cat and mouse" to chase them around all the forums. Just don't break the rules and you don't have to worry about it.
People don't get this! If the victim gets banned on another forum after his previous ban, he gets banned off all forums.
I'm pretty sure everyone does we just don't feel like that would really do anything. Like I said isn't that what a warning is for on here to let them now if you do trolling or anything against the rules again your banned? In all of our opinions the system we have now is fine and the mods do a great job at warning and banning people when they see fit.

Also isn't this what warnings are for. This only seems like a don't do it again kind of thing and if you do you get banned fully= Warning.

He gets banned on the flood, but he can post on any other forums. But, if he does it again, he'll be banned off all forums.
