Discuss Here the Observations Made from the New Halo 2 Video

I was watching the 20 minute Zanzibar multiplayer video for the first time yesterday, and after watching it a few times i noticed some things that were different, and i thought id just say what i thought about them and see if anyone agreed or disagreed. And just in advance in no way are any of the following statements complaints, just observations that id thought id call attention to. 1) Much Faster Frame Rate: im sure everyone noticed in the 20 second video released a month or so ago, but with this 20 minute video i was able to really see how much faster the game actually ran. The speed overall seems ok, but when i was watching close quarter fighting going on i could barely tell what was going on....im sure some people understand what im trying to say, basically it seems like the multiplayer my now just be a shoot and run game. For me, half the fun in Halo: CE was being able to appreciate my kills at the slower pace. I understand what BUngie is trying to do, but it felt (at least to me) that this was slightly turned into a "counter strike" like feel, just run and gun..... 2) No Three Weapons In the zanizibar demonstration they spartan was able to hold 3 weapons, but in the 20 minute video of multiplayer players were only allowed to dual wield, and thats it, those are their only 2 weapons...proof of this is when the player in the movie walks over a battle rifle when dual wielding in the top left corner it says "press X to switch" NOT "press X to pick up". Just an observation and i was kinda hoping for the 3 weapons total (dual wielding along with a two-handed weapon which would be holstered) 3) Higher Jumping WOW, spartans can jump a lot farther than they used to as well as higher, im sure i will get used to this, but i know that a lot of people wanted jumping to be toned down, so id like to hear what those people have to say....it seemed to me like it was ok, but ill have to play it to really know for sure 4) Sniper Rifle The "1st zoom setting" of the sniper rifle is now 5X not 2X anymore, i REALLY liked this new zoom, i always found that i wanted an "in betweem zoom setting" in between 2X and 10X, after all you already had the pistol for a 2X zoom.....also there appeared to be no kick back or recoil, the player was a pretty terrible shot with the sniper rifle, but i didnt really notice any recoil at all Im sure there are other things, but i thought these were a start, feel free to comment on these, and give you 2 cents about these 4 things or other things in the New Video.   • I also think that one factor could be the sensitivity level, if thats an option (i'm sure it is). I always play on sensitivity level 10 in Halo 1. So this one doesn't seem that different though it is still a little faster, but not too much. So maybe this player has his sensitivity way up like I do when I play. Just a thought.

  • Fast is FFA 16 players in Battle Creek... I only recommend it for the experience, I don't play it that often. The needler seemed to fire to fast. I don't think it should go as fast as a SMG, especially since it still has some tracking and explodes. [Edited on 8/26/2004 10:14:49 AM]

  • I thought that the gameplay wasn't fast. People that thought it was too fast have maybe never played a fast game of Halo. Like 16 people LAN in Blood Gultch

  • Ok, i didnt read threw thew whol thread cause i was getting pissed at all of the nit picking on the MP demo. ITS A 4 MONTH OLD BUILD! I hope you know everything you saw wont be the same. even the graphics will be better than that. I didnt pay attention to the 3 weapons at once thing but you can in the full version so who cares. Yes, the framerate is high because they use less polys than the original. The game seemed fast because it was 3 min rounds unless someone gets the flag on the attacking team. Single Flag CTF is always going to be fast since you always only have 3 mins to get the flag so everyone on the attacking team is going to be trying to get that flag quick. My point is, this is a very old build. When you get the game on the 9th, your going to notice that everything looks alot better.

  • Okay, am I the only one who has a problem with your line of sight when using the stationary turrets?? Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that turrets are now in MP, but just look at how much of your screen is blocked when using one. Look at 7:20 on the 18min video, and at 2:32 on the german vid. I don't like how the camera is almost mounted on your shoulder, I would prefer that it be more centered behind you, just like when using your gun in the back of the hog in Halo. I understand that Bungie probably has some reasoning for doing this..balance perhaps?. But just using a stationary turret makes you a huge target, and I think that making them destroyable balances that out pretty well. I just think that too much of your screen is blocked when using the turrets. [Edited on 8/26/2004 9:20:49 AM]

I do agree that the sword blows up and hurts anyone close enough.[/quote] Actually, it's quite obvious that no one actually "shot" him for the final hit. The sword does disappear and the buckshot that the guy put into him, before he dropped in to get the sword, takes enough of his shield that the plasma sword disappearing finished him off. It's working on the same principle as in Halo, where if you get a few shots in on someone and they fall off a ledge and die, you get the kill.

  • first i dont see how anyone can say that the playing in that video wasnt faster, you have to be on crack to not be able to see that second we stopped talking about the CS comparison awhile ago, CS is a terrible game made for glitchers though, i saw it played once by a good player and told myself that i would never play it cause simply put, its -blam!-.....but besides that i think a lot of the points made here are valid i just dont like when people start posting in a thread saying things like basically "OF COURSE you are allowed to have 3 weapons GOD!" we already SAID that you can use 3 weapons, we changed our opinion after looking more thoroughly at the video, so dont reply so negatively when you havent even read all the pages of the thread........

  • Horazonblade. There were 4 weapons used in Halo:CE. Pistol(Always)Sniper, Rocket, and sometimes a shotgun. No-one touched the other weapons, I'd rather have it as all the weapons were usable and there wasn't some super-weapon that could kill with such ease as a pistol. One thing I noticed is that the plasma rifle still brings a shield down in 3 hits, but now it kills in 5. That could end up being an overused weapon.

  • One thing I didnt like, is that the weapons are becoming too balanced. Its like you couldnt tell the difference between the needler, the plasma rifle, and the SMG when it was firing with the exception of one is better for more distance of course, but I liked that Halo's weapons all had individual pros and cons that set them apaprt. I dont want Halo 2 to be gun n run, please dont let it be, and taking away qualities from the weapons is a step in that direction.

  • I thought that was just a glitch (the sword thing) I thought I saw the words say the wrong thing a few times. And for everyone who is saying "oh I don't like it, boo hoo," this game build is for people who havent played so they dont get discoraged (a lot of people at E3 or in other shows probibly havent played much HALO). There was no falling damage, it didnt say when you picked up amo, you had less health (easier to kill people) or at least thats what I thought. I am looking forwards to it because this is a 5 month old version! Think about what the final version will be! By the way the moderators don't like the term "noob" or any variation of the word.... I would be carful if I where you.

  • I dont know why you guys say those players were Noobs , that footage was taken at MLG Pro, better Halo players the 99% of the people here. It did seem way to fast to me and way too much run and gun. CS is a good comparison to taht gameplay. I dont know if it was just the 4v5 or whatever, but that was comparable to 8v8 on a small level in HaloCE. And did u notice the rocket looked all retarted. Did nt even kill the guys in the jeep with a direct hit? Whats up with that ? Also they were all using the stupid SMG, I think it was like 3 times did one of them pick up a BR and attempt to 3 burst kill to the head. They better have made some changes to that version, or strangepurple will be right, halo 1 mulit is better. I agree so far from what I have seen.

Halo is all run n' gun or a lot of it to the, dare I say it, NooBs of this forum. You can have 3 weapons. A pair of one handed weapons and one other. There are frick loads of cover in Zanzibar. Blood Gulch has like none knowing how its an open canyon. And second, how is the game faster. It looked slower. And if your playing with me in 8v8 you die extremely fast if your not a complete noobie. There and yes the sniper has recoil and tracer bullets. God.
